Standing Charge for Electricity
Problems with Electricity Supplier - Eon
We are in a residential property
(previously the building was a Care Home), subsequently
divided to apartments, each apartment has its own
meter supply.
We have inherited electric meter, previously supplying
the Care Home.
Our standing charges were 79 pence per day until last
year, subsequently they have risen to 4:16 pence and as from
30/6/17 these have gone up to £5:21 pence per day.
Our electric consumption charges are £60.00 (ish )
per month whereas
standing charge is over £150/ per month.
We have tried seeking resolution from supplier, without
much success.
We require help / guidance in bringing the charges in line
with other residential properties.
Thanks
Mo

It looks like you are still on a business tariff which is rolling over every year. In addition to the domestic need does it supply landlords lighting ?
What is the anniversary date ? That will be your opportunity to arrange a new set of charges.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Huge differences in business standing charges against domestic accounts..changing from business to domestic is not too easy and straightforward..You will have to get the local council involved in proving you are now on a domestic council tax billing for a start. Lots of people buy old pubs and have the same problems getting rid of multi rate pub meters and changing it all over to domestic metering and standing charges. Will include paying the local DNO to come and remove meters as well which may not be cheap.
Business changes to suppliers on a fixed contracts need to put notice of change 3 months before contract ends or it rolls over for another year and they are legal contracts set in stone..Contract could be out of date tho so maybe can move to much better/cheaper suppliers..There are business suppliers comp sites around..I think UKPower do business and domestic but have to speak up front to someone rather than just consult the comp site0 -
Thanks
We are not on a fix contract, so we understand we can move by giving current supplier notice to move, this we understand takes 21 days.
We did find two providers offering standing charge of 65 pence per day, but current supplier will not release us, this has happened on 5 occasions (reasons provided included notice not given, although the intermediary, gave notice to existing supplier). With this on-going delay, the new provider, have now walked away, so we need to find some one else so we can move away with current very high standing charge of £5:21 p per day. Once we find a new provider, we can than consider & resolve the change from business meter to residential meter. Any help, suggestions of a reasonable business supply provider, please let us know.

Thanks for your reply, this is appreciated
Please do let us know of business electric supplier, with reasonable standing day charge, so we can move and thereafter try & resolve the residential status of the meter

Any of the Big 6 would be a good starting point - I believe all offer business and domestic.
But you need to know your existing supplier contract date.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Thanks for your reply & suggestion to approach the 6 big suppliers
Where will we find the contract date, will this be in our monthly bill ?
As we had 2 new suppliers willing to take over our contract, the company (an intermediary - energy agent) advised us that we have no fix term contract & we can move anytime, this will take maximum 21 days. Unfortunately, our current supplier prevented us from moving (none of the reasons given were factually incorrect & did not mention about a fix term, as a reason to prevent us from moving).
The new suppliers have walked away because of delay in getting released from our current supplier, who continue to charge us over £5/ per day in Standing Charge. Any help or suggestion, please M 20/7/170 -
You need to contact your present suppliers for the contract date.
Who are your present suppliers ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Probably wrong, but reading thro' the original post it seems that the alternative suppliers who walked away, were also business suppliers.
The point is, is that business suppliers are not allowed to supply domestic customers
That said, they are loathe to lose a customer and history shows they will do almost anything to keep a customer, even when they know it's one they should not have.
Get proactive - WRITE to the present supplier enclosing a copy of your Council Tax bill as this shows you are a domestic household, pointing out the expensive disparity between thier prices and domestic tariffs, and that you will be holding them liable for the differential if they haven't organised your release to a domestic supplier in 14 days.0 -

So what were the reasons provided by your current supplier for blocking the switch request?
- reasons you appear to accept were factually correct.
Perhaps the way forward is to address those reasons so that you are no longer prevented from switching by your supplier?0 -
Hello
Thank you for your reply
"reasons factually incorrect"
Current electricity supplier told the intermediary, that: (this we have in writing)
-we are in arrears (our electric bill confirms we were in credit)
-current supplier was not given notice for moving to a new supplier", this is also incorrect as the intermediary attends to the transfer & they were given a date by our current supplier to move
Our current supplier has blocked transfer 5 times.
We are not any fix contract, we are unsure how to get out of the current delima, as we are getting charged over £5/ per day standing charge.
Guidance, please M 20/7/170
