Xmas dinner went well didn't eat too much, so had cheese and crackers and crisp later at my brothers. As I only bought food for the the actual meal , virtually all was eaten there are some carrots and sprouts left that are uncooked and will be eaten up this week. A few roast pots that were left were eaten yesterday with chilli and tomato pasta sauce on and topped with cheese.i cooked all the remaining peppers with an onion or two, I had half with the potatoesand the other half is with pasta for tea today, with some mushrooms added. Garlic bread if I can find some in freezer. Lunch was a dry fried toasties with cheese and piri piri chicken on.
I also made pizzas yesterday for the freezer, I ate one for tea.
Trifle that sister made had a couple of portions left that got finished yesterday too.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.0 -
Just had to jump in here with my grapefruit story. I had a friend some time ago who was a trained chef. She really was an inspired cook, so much so that her MIL, a slightly batty but very uppercrust lady, asked her advice on a starter for a dinner party she was giving. She had thought of grilled grapefruit, could my friend tell her how to do them.
Friend told that it was very easy, you just put the grapefruit under the hot grill for a few minutes until lightly toasted. "And," she added, "you can pop a cherry on top to make it look a bit special."
Come the dinner party, friend was electrified when the guests were presented with a blackened ball rolling about on a plate, she hadn't thought it necessary to instruct her MIL to cut the grapefruit in half.
However, each blackened ball was duly adorned with a cherry perilously balanced on its top.Hollyharvey wrote: »Afternoon everyone
I’ve been reading through the past couple of days to catch up on how all of your Christmas food went, and how you are getting on with eating leftovers.
My Christmas plans went out of the window. I passed out on Christmas Day morning with a slow and irregular heartbeat and spent from then until yesterday evening having Christmas courtesy of my local hospital. It certainly wasn’t the Christmas I had planned.
A friend froze everything that she could for me and most other bits and pieces are either very long dated or will keep. I would have had all of the Christmas food over this New Year weekend, but I’m spending those few days with my brother and family so I’m going to have Christmas at the end of January (well the food anyhow).
On the plus side, I don’t have any leftovers to worry about.
Tonight I’m having part of what I had planned for the Christmas period, I’ve got moussaka, but out of the freezer and a trifle. It was easy enough to put a trifle together. Instead of sponge fingers I’ve used some madeira cake in the bottom and put some frozen raspberries in the jelly, then the usual custard and whipped cream on the top. I’m looking forward to this trifle.
I had some porridge for breakfast and then a tuna mayo sandwich for lunch.0 -
lol, black grapefruit ball, laughing out loud
money, I made pasta a couple of times in the beginning and I know I made banana ice cream but we used it very often for juices, it is the best and most efficient juicer bar none. Those slowly masticating screws keep all the goodness and you can make juice that lasts for 72 hours. I would never have bought one for any other purpose than juicing. Oh yes I used to grow trays of wheat grass and juiced that for `shots` they are disgusting. It is very big, heavy and is a potch to clean, hence me giving it away. Trick to using and cleaning is to put everything in a bowl of water so nothing dries up
Holly, what a scare. I am glad you are posting again0 -
Holly Harvey -I hope you are feeling better, now. And enjoy your delayed Xmas. XFocus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.0

That saying "you'll live" appears to be true though! It's good to test that every now and then.... just in case.
Shame you missed the day, after you put the effort in - because, let's face it, it's never "the same" if you just call any other day Xmas and eat a meal and pull a cracker is it.
Next year: Lay off the early morning booze .....
Glad you're perky enough to be able to peck some keys in our general direction!0 -

Bored of Turkey today although Pigcat isnt, thankfully.
Had chilli for dinner and the last but one bit of Scillian lemon mouse. It was Xmas tree shaped, just a bit of trunk left now. I'll get one next year too. It's absolutely delicious. Nice and light after rich food. It was from aldi.Mortgage free as of 10/02/2015. Every brick and blade of grass belongs to meeeee. :j0 -

I have a policy of never mentioning the absence of others - in case they have deliberately not mentioned "going away for X days" for fear of them becoming the attention of local ne'er do wells or other nutters.
I've slipped away in the past for a planned 3-4 days, only to have people "outing" my absence publicly .... which isn't what one might wish
So, when I notice people gone .... I just notice too .... and don't mention it. Some might perceive this as "nobody missed me??" but I'd rather err on the side of home security.0 -
A quick run down of all today's running nibble-a-thon included:
Turkey & chips, with cranberry sauce.
A cold turkey slice (while waiting for the above to cook).
A packet of crisps.
The final sweetie from the 250g bag of chocolates.
Two hot sausage rolls.
1/4 of a trifle (probably says serves 4-6).
One strip of chocolate from a regular 100g bar.0 -

Oh my, hope you are well, or at the very least, better now.
Dinner was as planned, and the trifle has got a hole in itEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0
