  • I`ve had a cba already, taken a frozen pasta sauce out to defrost for lunch. Well I have been busy  made rustic bread dough for ciabattas, now in the fridge until monday morning. I cleaned up, took the ham out, did some knitting and had a toastie and coffee. If I get the ham done today then I will have ham and veg later, maybe, maybe not. Pressure cooking it and it is thawing fast laying in the metal sink. Now to get changed :)

Breakfast was "back to normal food". It's cold here... freezing in the kitchen, so I wanted a belly filler/warmer.

One big bread roll out of the freezer... and into the toaster.
Topped with baked beans and 2 scrambled eggs :)

    Quick, easy, filling.
  • yay, ham is cooking, thawed quickly thanks to metal sink and then soaks in water to remove salt. Cooking in cider, with various stock veggies for flavour. 25 minutes in my pressure cooker. Its only a shallow pressure cooker, never used it much until I started cooking solo, now it is one of my best friends

Veggies for lunch are prepared and will all steam at the same time in a saucepan steamer, sprouts (one portion left), purple sweet potato (use by date was 8 dec but they are still perfect) and fat frozen peas. Ham and mustard. Yummy, I am looking forward to that meal. No fancy sauce needed, just the lovely flavours for me

Very windy now.Saw a shallow crack near the bottom of the lime render, right at the front near the door. Drat, I am hoping that the specialist wall paint does its job and fills the crack, its a bit cold for this paint, lime render but the alternative, if water gets in and freeze/thaws, is to take render off, put sticky stuff on the wall, re-render, stipple and then paint. I did it a year ago at the back, good job it was too. I am watching like a hawk, the paint should be dry by today, any more sign of a paint crack then I will have to do another coat. It isn`t giving me sleepless nights but it is a job I can do without

Hell of a storm first thing this morning, wild wild winds and driving rain, thunder and lightning.... it had passed by 7.45 and I thought "that's it then".

It's suddenly come over very dark and the rain's starting to come down again. It's nippy! I need to pull my socks on.... can't feel my feet.

I've washed up/kept the empty trifle dish ... and already started to accumulate the ingredients for making a trifle. Got out the mandarins, custard, jelly and topping .... next stage is to get out the cake-making bits and pieces.... and I figure I'll make a new trifle in the next 1-2 days, ready for New Year I guess.... no point making it just now... too early/too soon after the last trifle!

Up early again, breakfast was porridge, with last of the tangerines [the other 2 were shriveled wrecks, binned them] + Greek yoghurt & honey

Checked the HM yoghurt, seems set after initial brewing overnight in the thingy. Now moved the 5 1/2 mini jars into the fridge. According to the destructions with the thingy they need a few hours in there to cool & really set. As a HM yoghurt virgin I'm sticking to the rules for the moment

I went to Morries once it got light. Awful weather, thunder, gales, torrential rain. I wouldn't have bothered except I needed more bread & milk, and weekend forecast is just as bad

Of course now I back home with drenched trousers the sun is out & sky is blue:(

Lunch will be turkey salad sarnie. I will slice the rest, just leaving a couple of slices for dinner & freeze the rest

  • It was pouring with rain last night and this morning, but it has brightened up now.

I had WM toast with a slice of vegan cheese with a glass of lemon water for breakfast and I'm having my green smoothie about 1 o'clock.

I'm having tortilla wraps with roasted chickpeas, avocado, corn, tomatoes, peppers, onions, fresh coriander and salsa later.

Not sure what else today, I might make soup if I can be bothered.
My Christmas plans went out of the window. I passed out on Christmas Day morning with a slow and irregular heartbeat and spent from then until yesterday evening having Christmas courtesy of my local hospital. It certainly wasn’t the Christmas I had planned.

    How scary for you.xx:(

I did think to mention it here, for your benefit, but then I thought "why do you think the message would even be read 'in time' - and that it'd matter at all".... so I didn't :)

For the record, that previous downpour's passed too now.

    Hi All!

Just came online to check in after the worst christmas ever!!! Am still ill having also gone down with a virus that is persisting. Will catch up on the past few pages soon.:o Hope you all had a good time yourselves.

    No overindulgence here
Virus means I can no longer stand the taste of chocolate.
Seriously considering who are my real "friends" and whether next year a CFO christmas might be the best thing :(

In fact being in my own bed, my own (admittedly very cold) house and drinking tea out of my favourite mug are today's treats:):)
Fear I may be going the way of being an elderly, curmudgeonly, old so and so!!

I have very little food in the house so may have to venture out later or release the remaining fish fingers and frozen chips;)

    Good afternoon everyone,
Sorry to hear you have been poorly poppystar:(
It's raw and damp here today though no snow, though there is lots nearby!
I think I might be CFO tonight ;), as the kids are heading out with their Dad. I've no idea what to have, I'll decide later. No breakfast so just off to heat some turkey soup for lunch:)
