Right, I've worked out what we are having tomorrow. Even if it is unconventional I will get the tablecloth and place mats out for the dining table.:p
I'm going to wear a new (well, charity shop, but new to me) black dress and purple cardigan and my new M&S necklace that someone bought me.
We are having burgers, fries, garlic bread, salad and pickles for dinner. Mince pie, apple pie, fresh fruit salad and custard for dessert. I'm having some bubbly that someone bought me. My husband doesn't drink at all.
I'm going to watch some Christmas films and the carol concert and the Andre Rieu in London tonight on the telly. I have my Christmas spice scented candle burning away and it feels very cosy.:A0 -
Right. Cigs rolled. Kitchen clear. Off for my tea in a bit
I've not opened my special box of mince pies, that I bought in the week especially as they've been on "the list" since last year when I tried them and I was determined not to open them before Xmas Eve night at least.
All I've eaten today is a bread roll/margarine and half an egg.... because my recipe required half an egg (I'd halved a full recipe) and I'd broken it into a pot and whisked it and poured out half .... so I simply popped the pot into the microwave and nuked it for about a minute until that bit of egg was cooked .... so I ate that
I've completely left alone all the Xmas goodies, the crisps and peanuts and choccies ... because "You can't touch Xmas food until the shops are shut and it's dark on Xmas Eve".
Xmas treats basket has: 12 packs of crisps, 1 pack of peanuts, 1x450g chocolate biscuits, 1x350g chocolate fingers, a chocolate santa, 250g of soft-filled chocolates. There's also a bag of tortilla chips, but they might get made into a cheese-topped-nachos at some future point, so "not Xmassy" as such, but bought them anyway. Fridge has a trifle.
Actually, I bet my fridge looks more bare the night before Xmas than many families' fridges look before they go shopping after they've been away for two weeks.0 -
I have finished off the last of the "new" 12 pack of mince pies. I made some rum butter this morning and have had one with some of that and a bit of cream after my tuna sandwich at lunchtime

I'm going to have my dinner about 5.30pm and then intend to have some stollen and will have some posh cheese and biscuits while watching the tv this evening

Good evening everyone,
It's been bedlam here, shows how unused to I am having a houseful these days:eek:. The kids have been great so all the prep has been done so they have headed off to see their Dad for a quick drink before "Christmas" kicks off here at 6pm:D. Just an hour until I have a Bloody Mary which is always my personal official start to Christmas . I've not had any mince pies or stollen yet - I intend to rectify that later:D0 -
I am done in, been wrestling with a whole turkey, it certainly takes over the kitchen when you take the meat off. Anyway it cooled quickly thanks to the cold wind and is now safely sliced and packed to take to dd early tomorrow, I am taking all the bits as well, all in foil boxes. She`ll be very glad. Its going to be a `noisy` day tomorrow with small talk with her in laws, both are louder than the children. I am driving back in the dark along with thousands of grannies who all want their own beds and the peace and quiet of their own homes. I will so appreciate the tranquility here next week, not moaning at all on being solo
I am glad that I have enough nice bits here, didn`t do overkill but there is enough for some every day for the next two weeks and maybe beyond
I had a short nap too, felt my eyes getting heavy at 2.20, stayed in a comfy chair that does not let my head roll sideways. Felt better for it
I have had 3 mini mince pies topped with thick vanilla cream with liquor plus 3 tasty choc biscuitsand one small pack of crisps. Not all at once. Snowball drink in a bit. I have been listening to a penny vincenzi book on audible, while knitting. Loving it and the chance to do what I want0 -
oooh snowball is lovely, very small bottle. I am going to buy advocaat and make my own. Almost as good as eating trifle
:D
and a very nice christmas to you all, I hope that 2018 is kind to you and thank you for making me so welcome

Talking of Mince Pies, is it just me who does not like them ?
I have tried them over the years but never liked them (sorry)
To replace them, earlier this month when doing the online shop I got a pack of 'Festive Bakewells' to compensate. I note they have almond in them or a base on this, not something I am keen on generally however they will be fine I'm sure. Not opened them yet.0 -

I don't really love them, but I don't mind having a box open at Christmas.:p They taste nicer drowned in hot custard along with a hot cup of tea.2025 GOALS

And you were right to do so, its what true friends do. The pain and grief experienced when the one you love ups and leaves you is no less than if they had died.
I completely agree with you...especially if the love of your life is now in someone else's arms. You go through the same grieving process with the added pain that are now giving their love to someone else.
Back to CFO.. I don't like mince pies either, or xmas pudding or trifle'I'm sinking in the quicksand of my thought
And I ain't got the power anymore'0
