Now on the hunt for "summat else" that will achieve the same objective - ie add a bit of colour and a bit of flavour to a variety of meals. It's also got to be healthy (no sugar or chemicals in it).

I have a suspicion there mightnt be anything like it on the market yet....but, if I'm wrong, do tell...

I use Frank's hot sauce, I just looked in the fridge and the ingredients are: aged cayenne red peppers (35%) distilled vinegar, water, salt and garlic powder.

I don't think it is amazingly hot, but it's hard to know if your tastebuds are more sensitive than mine. I sprinkled it liberally all over my tacos yesterday and didn't notice it was all that hot. I might have a cast iron tongue, though, as I do eat spicy food quite a lot.:D

It's not the dinner is it.... it's the scoffs that cost the most.

    Just totting up my spends.
Xmas Dinner's £8 (because it's enough to feed 3-4 and I'll just be eating 1/4 of that on the day, £2/head)
Nut Roast *sighs* ... wish I'd not bothered £5 (lots of spices bought specially + nuts aren't cheap).
    Drinks £3
    Sweets/crisps/biscuits/chocolate Santa £6

So total spend so far £22.... but that's a whole week of Xmas food and nibbles. I'd be "eating something anyway", so I'd say the additional cost of piggery is £16 of that :)
  • Yesterday was all change good job I'm flexible, my brother popped in for a visit late afternoon yesterday and suggested he treat us to a chipper tea so how could I refuse - he had fish I had scampi and lovely it was too. That means tonight it has to be the Smokie and I might just completely forget about the Mac & Cheese.

9.30am no one at the jet wash so car rid of the salt and grim from the past few weeks, trip to the SM on the way back - oh wow therein lies madness, thankfully I only had a few items so sailed through the SS basket section. Lottery counter was empty too so put that on and according to the assistant the trade are calling this "Mad-Friday" :rotfl:

I like sriracha but have recently been using Gochujang (medium hot) it has a slight fruitiness to it which I like - the medium is plenty hot for me, I dread to think what the very hot is like :D

That's interesting I reckon our "extra" works out about £25.00-£30.00 per head to cover Christmas and then around another £5 for New Year. This does include alcohol so I don't think that is too bad considering the nice things we are having. ;) Put in context that Christmas lunch only at a local (decentish) hotel is £63.50 per person not including drinks and it feels like a bargain:rotfl:
PS- should point out I'm not funding all of this ......

I'm determined that we do have cauli cheese tonight as I now have 2 caulis in the fridge so one definitely needs used! (Son appeared with another one yesterday as he had spotted they were on SO:eek:)

Why is it that when you are cold and tired all you want to do is eat?

So far today I have had about 8 cups of coffee! Chocolate. Scrambled eggs, 3 slices of toast with butter and marmalade and 2 slices of toast with cream cheese...and it's not even lunchtime  :o

I'm still mulling over buying a chocolate trifle. Let's face it, if you've got the ingredients it's mad not to whip one up at the last minute if/when you "fancy" it ... even if the ingredients aren't actually what others would say were "right" (e.g. no whipped cream on top, I use dream topping as it's cupboard friendly).

Just when I had decided to make my own choccy trifle.... somebody told me that 4ldis are rather good.... so I'm in half a mind to buy one. I did look earlier, but there were none on the shelves. Not sure if they don't stock them, have run out, or if they don't put them out until the weekend.

I'd certainly have fridge space for it. The fridge is (as ever) nearly empty of anything at all!

I came across a recipe for braised cauli on the greek vegan blog, it sounds quite tasty I might give it a try soon.

  • 31 solo portions of turkey are now fast freezing, some bigger and some smaller but 2 x small makes a big. I also vac packed the meaty rib cage, that will easily make two good meals. It was easy but like a production line, keeping very clean and freezing as quickly as I could. Got everything wiped down and disinfected and went to the tip, so am ready for christmas. Soup with pasta and tofu was lovely and I somehow ate my plate of fruit, chocolate and small parkin, so am on the straight and narrow again. Very mentally tempted to dive into cadbury fingers but am absolutely stuffed, don`t know why I had that thought
