The planned macaroni cheese is being side-lined yet again

Was too CBA to make that roast cauliflower yesterday - as it involves 1 hour 20 minutes in the oven. It's roasting now and smells of things like liquid aminos (translation = sorta soya sauce) and lemon are emanating from the kitchen. Not at all sure what I'll think of it - as the base is a whole cauliflower and some roughly-chopped carrots and potatoes. It's an Engine 2 recipe (translation - one of "the" main websites for wholefood plant-based eating) and I'm getting ahead of the game here - as...yep....I've got 2 more cookbooks turning up in the New Year and that's one of them. So that way is a bit more biased towards American-style I reckon - still giving it a go.
Quick little google later out of curiosity - having just watched the Exotic Marigolds on Tour on BBc IPlayer and they've just been in Iceland. Prompted by thinking "Gawd - a lot of those women there look like me" I've done a quick google and I have a funny feeling I'm not that likely to be trying Icelandic food any time soon....
So - American it is for tonight then...0 -
2 digestive biscuits met their end.

I did take the opportunity of buying in a spare packet when I was in L1dl, in case I got an urge for a digestive or a cheesecake over Xmas. 31p/pack they are, I find them nice and crumbly/soft/moist -in a good way.0 -
Duly had the cauliflower roast. Just as well I decided to saute up a bit of tomatoes and mushrooms to have as a "side" with it - in case it wasnt as flavourful as I wanted. Hm....was okay...and I've got a second portion I'm going to have to have tomorrow. Don't know that I'll make it again though.
Had decided to add a bit more flavour again. So - having been reading all these food blogs along those lines and seeing that sriracha sauce seems to be such a common ingredient - and is often drizzled very prettily over the top of "whatever it is" to add to the appearance of it = well it was my first time for trying that sauce and I am so glad I didnt do that:eek:. I tried the merest little smidgen cautiously put onto some forkfuls and it's :eek: (as in just a trifle "hot"). Note to self that a lot of modern American food seems to have Mexican type influences at the moment.
The rest of that sauce will be going out the door in the direction of the husband of a friend of mine here - as I know he likes curries and has to eat meals all over the world in the course of his career he's still got = he might like it....0 -

Money, I have tried roasted cauliflower, doubt it was same recipe as yours, mine was just the florets, I found it very nice
HH, mmmm, turkey & mayo sarnies, looking forward to them already
The roasted veggies all in one disposable tray, with HM pigs in blanket worked out very well, I added a shallot to the mix, one of the long type, echelon? Not had that type before and were on offer a week or so back in Lid's
I made more than I needed, so LO plated up for another day
Took about 2 hours, most recipes say 60 minutes, maybe it is my oven, plus I do not par boil, just prep and bung in oven
Here is the result
PS, roasted sprouts work, taste like sprouts of course, but a tad improved by not being boiled since OctoberNumerus non sum0 -
I like roast cauliflower per se Farway. I like any of the vegetables that I like as roasted.
That particular recipe wasnt quite though imo...0 -
I par boil potatoes for roasting but not veg.
I have roasted sprouts plenty of times and love them (unless I'm unfortunate enough to have a bitter tasting batch).
I love sprouts..even raw ...Cauliflower, however, I can happily live without as I find it is often insipid unless added to another dish with lots of flavour and spices.
I am not keen on it even if drowned in a good cheese sauce.
Good veg to me tastes good alone and, imho, cauliflower doesn't meet that criteria.
With regard to PN's microwaved cheese sauce, I tried it and it worked really well
.... if I can make it, anyone can
