PN My neighbour has been out to the shops. She left home at 6.45 this morning, and when she got to Tesco the queues at the tills all had 6 or 7 people in front of her with loaded trolleys and they were queuing to use the self service tills. She said that Sainsbury was just as bad and that there was a really long queue outside Aldi at 7.30 waiting for them to open at 8.00am so she didn't bother!

My 4ldi turned out to be all right. Not overly busy. At the till the queue was shorter than normal with one person being served, one in front of me with about 20 items ... then me. Certainly nobody with any Xmas-laden trolleys. People were clearly "shopping for Xmas food" but smaller items, posh meat packs etc - and taking their time choosing, not grabbing and in a panic.

    Yes it was another mouse.......
  • Wholemeal toast again for breakfast and I'm making tofu tacos again for lunch. This time with the already marinated tofu pieces, black beans, red onion and sweetcorn and a lot more seasoning as it wasn't hot enough yesterday.

Now I wish I had some sriracha!

I'm about to have an apple and a yoghurt.

I will probably scoff some choccie coins watching TV this afternoon.

    Not sure about dinner yet.
Had decided to add a bit more flavour again. So - having been reading all these food blogs along those lines and seeing that sriracha sauce seems to be such a common ingredient - and is often drizzled very prettily over the top of "whatever it is" to add to the appearance of it = well it was my first time for trying that sauce and I am so glad I didnt do that:eek:. I tried the merest little smidgen cautiously put onto some forkfuls and it's :eek: (as in just a trifle "hot").

    :rotfl:Yes, sriracha is very hot.

    Good Morning Everyone :)

Farway - thanks for all the tips - they will really help. Your meal looked absolutely delicious and one that I will try once I've acquired a few more skills lol

Wort - I'm really sorry for your loss and understand that sense of still feeling in shock. Such a traumatic time for us both. My wife woke up one morning and complained of a very severe headache. This was unusual as she had never suffered headaches before. I took her the same day to our GP as an emergency appointment as she looked really ill and I was extremely concerned. Our GP examined her and said that he felt an urgent referral to a neurologist was needed. We returned home expecting to hear pretty soon. However, that very same evening my wife complained that her vision wasn't normal and to be honest my first thought was A&E. By the time we had arrived, my wife had fallen asleep - at least that's what I had thought. I couldn't rouse her and so asked a paramedic who was nearby, for help. Sadly, she had passed away. I then had the trauma of a post mortem etc - a malignant brain tumour. I was told that nothing could have been done to help J, and that it was remarkable that the tumour hadn't made it's presence known sooner. Sometimes life can be so cruel and heartbreaking too.

PN - I managed to pick up a nice cauli this morning and am set to try your sauce. I will report back later :)

Caronc - A mouse or mice? Crikey, that's all you need. I have one lazy cat who needs a challenge - should you need him :)

The idea about asking my sister-in-law for help is a great one. The only reason I haven't asked is that she is the main carer for a daughter with special needs. I know she would help, but feel she has her hands full already.

    Best wishes to all.

    Morning all.

Up early, thinking about blooming dishwasher again. In the end I gave in and got up
Breakfast was Jumbo oats porridge, with diced fresh apple nuked in, blobbed with Greek yoghurt and honey

Cracked on with the DW, 99% confirmed it is the push button on /off switch using my multi meter, a good buy from Lid's a few years back.
I have just ordered a replacement, but not really expecting it to be here until mid / late week at the earliest, gives me time to figure out how to remove the old one:question:

Lunch I think is going to be the cold LO pigs in blankets + brown sauce sarnie

Dinner I quite like the idea of using the LO roasted veg from yesterday, fried and turned into omelette, I have some mushrooms that are getting a bit forlorn so I can bung them in as well. Bit of grated cheese on top for protein, job done

:rotfl:Shame you're not near me - I'd just give you the bottle then:rotfl:

Now on the hunt for "summat else" that will achieve the same objective - ie add a bit of colour and a bit of flavour to a variety of meals. It's also got to be healthy (no sugar or chemicals in it).

I have a suspicion there mightnt be anything like it on the market yet....but, if I'm wrong, do tell...

Just thankful I didnt artistically drizzle it all over my meal - or it would have all been straight in the bin. At least I can eat it...

EDIT; mrAPJI - just remembered there is a book called "Man in the Kitchen". I've no idea what it's like - but it might be a suitable book for you? Quick google revealed that Amazon has a book called "Fat Man in the Kitchen" and the book "Man in the Kitchen" for sale. Both for pennies and so I can't "see inside" either of them - but, at that price, you might as well take a punt and buy one or both of them.

Mice I'm afraid , it is an every winter issue of field mice coming in.... I've been letting next doors cat have a good old explore in the hope the cat scent might deter them but so far no luck. Tbh having lived in this area for over 26 years and had the problem every year (as does everyone else including said neighbour with cat) I've stopped fretting about and I'm just extra careful re ensuring foodstuffs are sealed and floors/counters swept and bleached. They'll diasappear in the Spring:)
  • There's also "Man about the kitchen" on Amazon.

Whoops - this all sounds horribly sexist - cookbooks specifically aimed at men:o. But they might help...

I have "Fat Man in the Kitchen" - it's actually fairly cheffy so possibly not for inexperienced cooks ;)

The problems I see with cookery books are equipment and ingredients used.

Any cookbook is great if that's the food you eat, that's the equipment you've got and those are the ingredients you are familiar with/like.

To be fair though .... most/all cookery books rarely contain more than 1-2 dishes one will ACTUALLY ever cook.... so the Internet's a better bet.
