Cooking for one (Mark Two)

Afternoon everyone
PN I hate having to get washing dry in the house so I know how you feel. One of my pet hates in the winter.
I had a massive breakfast of two slices of toast, scrambled eggs, then a Greek yoghurt and berries.
I wanted all of that because I went to the hospital with an elderly neighbour who I always go with to help her. I have only been back about half an hour. I thought we would be a while.
I'm not hungry because of that large breakfast though.
I'm still using up UFOs from the freezer, after tonight there is only one left. Tonights looks like a beef root stew, so if it is I'll have that with a dumpling. Actually I hope it is, I quite fancy that. I also found a cheesecake slice in the freezer as well, so will have that at some point today.0 -

Never trust them these days, they said on Saturday that yesterday was going to be sunny and then look what happened. I had my washing ready for Monday, finished up like yours on airers
At least I now know, from PN weather watch that rain is due here around 4, which is good, water in my violas
Lunch was usual cheese a salady sarnie, followed by a banana sliced in the last of the yoghurt and then eaten out of the pot
Dinner is planned as a salad with last of the corned beef & very buttery baked spud, probably eaten as the rain tips down
It was Lild mooch this morning, more top up really, corned beef, some sugar for my planned marmalade making sometime, and some bourbon cream bikkiesEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
I had a bowl of carrot and lentil soup and at various times, my usuals of stewed apple, nuts, berries, scone etc etc. I just made a celeriac bacon soup and again it is spectacular, from the covent garden book ` a soup for every day` what I like is that the recipes and ingredients are easy and the taste is wonderful. So I made it and froze four portions. Tbh they are soups that I look forward to, not like my own concoctions of everything in a stock
I am trying hard to have more proteins, it is good for hair, hair is protein and we actually need more protein as we get older, ok, as we sail into older age ie no longer spring chickens. If we don`t have enough then there is nothing there to grow hair and it just keeps getting thinner
It has been a bit busy here plus flaming computer problems, something about dns. I think I sorted it, took me over two days and had no clue about what I was doing. Busy again tomorrow as I have a masonry outside wall to paint, only needing a step ladder and am already prepared ie masked it, pulled gravel and plants back etc. Got to do it tomorrow afternoon, it should be dry before autumn rains
Am avoiding shops again, went to sainsburys this morning and they have not half squashed their foods into a much smaller area, to make way for argos stuff. I won`t be going there by choice any more. Much of what I wanted was no longer stocked.0 -
Kittie - celeriac and bacon soup sounds truly scrumptious:).
I've very orange hands this evening despite mega scrubbing and a bit of a soak in some diluted hydrogen peroxide:eek:. I've a big box of disposable gloves but never thought to wear them before skinning what felt like a mountain of tomatoes for the freezer. Any that were ripe and golf ball or bigger size have been skinned and cored and either chopped or frozen whole. Needless to say the space I managed to create in my freezer is quickly filling up but I'm so pleased to have been able to make the most of my crop this year:D. A big pan of smaller ripe ones are now in a pan simmering with some olive oil, garlic, basil and oregano. I'll blend and then sieve these, which is a real pain but worth it, for passatta.
My Dad popped by this afternoon and departed with some roast chicken breast:), so that's taken care of some of that. Like me he loves proper roast chicken but seldom makes it. I'll strip it in a bit and then get the carcass into the slowcooker, I'll cook that overnight so look forward to a nice aroma tomorrow morning:D.
The wind died back this afternoon and it was quite sunny for a bit but it is much, much cooler than it has been recently. I got the last of the violas into a basket so apart from some daffodil bulbs that's my planting finished for this year. Lots of my bedding plants are still in flower though getting a bit straggly looking. I'm loathe to pull them though as it's so nice to have the splashes of colour as the days get shorter and greyer.
Dinner tonight is dhal as planned so just heating up rather than CFO tonight:).0 -

Scrambled eggs on toast.
Cheese/beans on spuds.
Peanut butter on crumpets.
TICK!
I think they count, but I'd have to google to check.
I ended up toasting a whole part-baked baguette, with garlic butter and some mozzarella.... then nodded off and now woken up groggy.0 -
Good morning everyone,
This morning has a real Autumn feel about it, so it was lovely to get up to the smell of simmering chicken stock.
So far I've had a fairly productive morning, I'm up, showered, dressed, fed. have popped a washing on and done a bin run so I'm ready for a sit down with a cuppa & a book for a bit before I finish making the passatta and pick the chicken carcass. I'm not sure about meals yet, I must have a rake through the veg drawer and see if I'm inspired or anything needs using up:).0 -
Came upon this on a FB thread https://static1.squarespace.com/static/57ea401815d5db35a6482940/t/59e49920914e6b0711a536d7/1508153704958/Eat+well+for+%C2%A318+per+week.+Eat+Delicious+Cookbook+by+Limahl+Asmall.pdf thought there were some interesting recipes if anyone is looking for some inspiration. Recipes are mainly for two portions so reasonably CFO friendly:)0

My lovely 93 year old neighbour has just called with a home made jam rolly polly and says that she has got a spotted D*ck steaming at the moment and she will cut it in half and bring half around for me later
.
When I was with her yesterday at the hospital, while we were waiting for her to be seen we were talking about old fashioned puddings and dinners that she used to cook before her husband passed. I was saying how much I loved jam rolly polly and spotted d*ck, and steamed steak and kidney pudding with a suet crust.
After that conversation she bought all of the ingredients while out shopping this morning and has been making them for us. And the best thing is, she is going to make us a steamed steak and kidney pudding for lunch one day next week and bring it here. I'll do the veg to go with it. She was saying that it never seems worth bothering with cooking this sort of thing just for herself.
Happy days.

I wasn't feeling very well this morning, I think it was going home last night as it was chilly and I had to wait for the bus for ages.
I had some freshly squeezed OJ and lots of hot tea when I got up.
Then I went out for some fresh air and I bought some paracetamol and Lucozade at the shop. I got a baguette and had some slices with a can of tomato and bean soup when I got in.0
