I hate those sort of days. Blame it on the weird effects of storm Ophelia! Hope the day improves:)

I had a similar evening yesterday. A last minute bit of cutting down in the garden pre recycle day and managed to get a rose thorn stuck in my hand. Dealt with that but because I wasn't using my hands as I would usually I then managed to scald the same hand when lifting the lid off the saucepan.

Well done caronc! Not managed the washed and out of PJs yet - never mind I'm sure it gave the recycle men a laugh when I was stuffing a few more things into the box:o

Did do breakfast but the very easy nut butter and jam on toast version:)
  • Went to the launderette, all machines full, 20 minutes' wait

Wow, didn’t realise laundrettes still existed.

Still remember using them in my uni days.... max 22 minute cycle start to finish. Which by the time you took off the fill and extraction time, pre-wash, 3 rinses and spins ment you actually got about 3 minutes of main wash.

There's one by me but like so many now the concentration is on service washes. Don't think Ive ever seen anyone else in there and they don't make it welcoming with the benches that you used to get. I quite enjoyed pootling out for a Sunday wash, buying paper and sitting there enjoying people watching, mind you I'm sure the washes were longer than 22 mins!:)

…or the Sunday papers were a lot smaller :)

Yep they do. Time was when I was a regular habitue of them. Used one a few times since moving here - ie when I had to wash all my bedding (courtesy of plaster dust) getting on it during house renovation.

They've got bigger machines than my home one - so there are things they come in handy for imo.

Lunch today a "bowl" with yogurt/pomegranite seeds/stewed apple/an orange/coconut flakes. Now having sourdough bread with that vegan "cream cheese" on it.

Dinner tonight - I've got some tofu marinating ready to bake in the oven (another first for me). Not quite sure what to have with it yet - I do know I've got that other helping of cooked rice to steam - so will have to make that part of it. We'll see re the rest - got some kale to use up (so maybe steamed kale with lemon juice and olive oil on it for one).

With my food transitioning over I think I've given up a bit on cookbooks as such for the time being - because recipes are having to fulfil so many criteria for me these days: healthy/vegan/easy and, preferably, oil-free. It just seems easiest to do what I did to get that marinated baked tofu recipe and just google for "oil-free baked tofu" and wait to see what recipes pop up for it.

For reasons I won't go into here ... I have a working washing machine that I don't use (short version: it petrifies me).

So I go to the launderette. £4, 25 minutes - my own washing machine would take half that load and take 60+ minutes to do each wash AND it'd come out wetter! It's a nuisance, but I do get a better/faster end result :) There's a bigger machine too, £5 and 29 minutes.... which one could use for full duvets or big curtains etc.

I'm utterly starving... bought the mozzarella to bake a really gooey cheesy pizza slice sort of thing .... with "stuff" I've got kicking around .... but I CBA.
  • Afternoon Everyone,

Oh dear PN can totally sympathise with you I have days like that all the time, but not today, I've had quite a good morning. The garage left it too late yesterday to call and say car ready to pick-up, so got up early this morning and had a lovely 40min walk in the early morning sunshine to get it. There's a bit of a breeze but no more than what I would call a good "drying" day. Other than the woman across the roads bin getting blown over at 3.00am, the storm appears to have passed us by this time.

Needed to use up some of the flour tortillas that are still lurking, chopped up a couple and baked them to make chips and had with guacamole for breakfast.

Went to drop some stuff off at the charity warehouse, had a mooch around and found a set of really nice lined curtains that are perfect for the spare room, they've never been hung because the stickers are still intact on the header tape, so I'm very happy.

I do the same, I was beginning to run out of ideas for tea tonight and did a surf around using the 3 ingredients that are most in need of using and found a recipe for a BLT & Portobello stack - basically a BLT using mushrooms instead of a bun and a guacamole dressing which will rid me of breakfast leftovers and I'll use some potato wedges from the freezer too :j.

PN shame you're not here its perfect drying weather, sun out and blowy.
Caronc, I'll look into them then, though unsure how they'll be to reuse if they've had raw meat in them

Same as yesterday breakfast -2 toast and cheese spread
Lunch- ham salad thin, though I'm going to have a muller rice, apple I think as I'm freezing so I will ping it in micro.
I'm not sure my temp saying it's 19 c in my front room is right! As I'm sat with jeans sweatshirt, and down filled body warmer and socks on ,with a furry throw over legs and feet. And my nose hands and feet are like blocks of ice!!!!
Tea tonight- roast pots left from Sunday reheated with Lloyd grossman tomato and chilli sauce on. Topped with cheese. A piece of chicken breast arrabattia, and veg.
Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.

Well, that didn't go to plan. Weather this morning showed a graphic that showed I'd not get rain until 4pm.... but it came 15 minutes ago.... dashed out and grabbed everything off the line, but they were HUGE spots of rain quickly covering everything. So it's all now in this room on two airers.

As I was hanging it onto the airers the weatherman was saying "there's some rain appearing in ....." (my area) - and still I could see the graphic behind him clearly showing I shouldn't be getting rain until 4pm!

So the washing is now about as wet as when I brought it home.

    *sighs*

I felt so "smug" last night when I spotted what looked like a whole dry day for a change!

I just wash them with hot, soapy water , rinse well and turn inside out to dry. I wouldn't re-use ones I'd used for raw meat to store cooked things in but I've never had any problems. Depending on how long they are in the freezer for I find I get 3 or 4 goes from a pouch before they stop sealing which is probably much the same as takeaway containers which I find go brittle:)
