EDIT: Now I've had time to reflect, I think I'll regret buying these because of the skins.... there are a ton of things I could make ... but those skins will need to either be picked off or they'll prey on my mind all the time I'm cooking/eating whatever it is I've made with them. Oh well .... 3 bl00dy tins to get through![/QUOTE]
Pastures Do you like tinned tomatoes on toast either with or without eggs on the other slice? That'd be an easy way to use your tomatoes up?

Re using "a bit of the box" - I do that sort of thing too instead of labels. So whatever-it-is gets stuck in the freezer with however much of the cardboard outer packaging is necessary to tell me what it is/what to do with it.

I also use that for "labelling" things stored on shelves. Over the years I've put sticky labels on jars (but one has to get them back off again). I've also tried those special "pens" for writing on glass jars (not very effective). So again I just chop off the "title" of what it is and put that in the jar with it.

I certainly found myself getting confused as to exactly which "flavours" of fruit etc tea I'd got in until I started doing that.
    .

Until I read this recent thread I thought it was just me tearing bits off packets / boxes and putting in the new container. I also try & include the cooking instructions, such as should it be defrosted first, gas 4 or 6, 15 or 45 minutes etc

PN, toms skins, I eat them, cooked or raw, basically my life is too short to peel a tom or stuff a mushroom, so I don't :D I don't eat apple cores though, but know someone who does

Another early start, keep waking up and not being able to nod off again

Thus I had breakfast, toast & ginger marmalade. Halfway through doing the toast I fancied scrambled eggs on it, but by then I was beyond the point of no return, I can't abide cold toast

Just basic bread & milk shopping in Morries, except I fell into temptation and bought my first ever Focaccia, this one was singing buy me, buy me as I went by. Cheese & tomato topping, so one of my 10 a day right there

I had some of it for lunch, sliced open with more tom & lettuce inside. Made a change but TBH I'll walk by next time, probably one of the things nicer when warm with a cold beer & mates round a BBQ

It started tipping down lunchtime, like a waterfall, which is a shame because the grandchildren are going round Pompey dockyard at the moment and will get drenched, they are popping in later on the way home

Dinner will be the veggie en croute bought yesterday, with easy runners & onions ensemble that I cribbed off the web

PS, Caron, good result "about the really salty M&S southern fried chicken well I got a £10 gift card for raising it with them" Worth raising items with M & S, that is two of us now, and gives a "free meal" as well

It's the skins though .... whatever I do, I bet there are skins on them - and they have to all be removed.

    :)

I do eat tinned tomatoes "as they are" ... in breakfasts. But I still pick out every individual one from the tin with a knife/fork and check for bits of skin.... and remove any.

I've always been "big on soft breads" - and about 30 years ago or so I had my first cheese/tomato focacia style bread roll from M&S. Pricey, but bought just once.

Over the years I've always eyed up any breads that look savoury/soft.... and I've even made my own focacia about 10 years ago.... and it was straight forward/easy.

Not made it since though .... it's that whole thing of "volume you make" -v- how often you actually want to eat it over 1-2 years. I love it .... but don't want an overload, or to have it cluttering up the space....

I do keep thinking about making another though.....

I went for a bit of freezer emptying:

    - a veggie burger, I had 2 remaining from a pack of four - so cooking one of those right now. That leaves one in the box.
    - some chips - emptying the last packet (already bought its replacement)
    - some peas - initially to empty a 1Kg packet, but when I looked at them it was pea overload, so I've only used half of what was in there.

It'll all take about 30 minutes (that's WAY too long to wait for food isn't it) ..... cooking from frozen in the mini grill and I'll nuke the peas at the last minute.

Will be served with ketchup/vinegar probably.... I think chutney would be wasted on what is a very disappointing veggie burger. Won't get those again (4ldi I think).

    Afternoon everyone,

The street festival has been a bit of washout. It's been tipping down for the past couple of hours, so we gave up on that and my brother has just given me a lift back home. Lunch was a really nice burger though :) from one of the stalls.

I love focaccia, but only if it is served warm. That is something else I need to re-visit now :)

Have just been looking at the menu of the pub I'm going to for my tea tonight and they are actually advertising Posh Fish Finger Butty at £6.45!! I definitely won't be having that, a fillet steak has caught my eye as has a paella and also a chicken and chorizo pie :)

Ninth Anniversary Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
Thanks PN and caron, I did have a quick look at a couple of blogs but found them so hard to navigate to the stuff I'm actually interested in I gave up.

Frugal Queen I think is the pensioner that lives with her cats in Scotland who uses her dirty bath water to flush the bog... she actually had some good tips but they were mainly ways to reduce utility consumption etc and my rent/bills are fixed, even if I was saving my landlord money he doesn't deserve it coz he can't be arrised to come and fix our oven...

Anyhoo, as you say PN, just need to be price aware of everything, and I guess just sell stuff on eBay and get a 3rd job maybe

What's everyone having for dinner? I'm going to prep a couple of days worth of jam sangjies to take to work for breakfasts :)

    ... pensioner ...

I'm disinterested in pensioners' blogs ...especially those who rent.
I have a MUCH smaller income than a state pension and I am a home owner :)
The basic single pension's about double what the single JSA would be ... and my income is about what a single JSA would be.

As for home owning.... £400 gone just last week in fencing/repairs/gate costs ...

Must get round to getting one of those job things..... I've been making a decreasing income from blogging for the last 11 years.... and keep meaning to get round to getting a "proper job", but then I forget :)

I'm not cut out for "the modern style" blogging (instagram, videos, selfies) as it'd take a huge investment in technology and an entire change of lifestyle to be able to begin to compete. I'm no oil painting, there's nothing fab about my kitchen/house, I've no pets and I don't go anywhere/do anything :) I've also got an ancient PC and the slowest broadband in the world (0.6 Mb/s yesterday) - I took a 2-3 minute video of something the other day and tried to upload it, it worked out it'd take 3-4 hours!

So much these days is actually big brands backing things too.... it's not how it used to be before everybody had a website and social media etc.

I'm thinking of following the fly lady thread this week as the house feels neglected after all my studying, abscess, ill cat, hot weather and then extra hours at work. I like following lists and doing a bit every day otherwise I do stuff like mad for a day or two then am exhausted and do nothing for a week. I'm sure I was in more of a routine when I had to be (i.e.) had children at home with the routine of school and college etc.

I'm very tidy but need encouragement to clean things like skirting boards etc ;)
