Caronc I like the ornamental cabbage , but they got eaten by slugs in my garden!

I have a combination microwave, convection oven. This is handy for small oven items ,I. E. Fish fingers .It has grill too but never use it as it takes ages!!

Weds tea , I had half a pack of micro rice to use up, so fried an onion garlic, and some frozen mushrooms, added some bits of tikka chicken, added an egg to the rice and a sprinkle of fajita seasoning. I also boiled the last of the mini potatoes, but didn't need them as the rice dish ended up huge!! So the pots were saved for Thurs tea.

Thurs met a friend for lunch, and had jacket pot with cheese and beans, only thing gluten free on menu!! Which then meant tea at home was pots with cheese onion and tomatoes!!!

Today- dgson is coming after school, so I've got a curry out, yeah!! I don't have to split it in half and put half in freezer. We'll have 2 of the 3 muller corner yogurts as afters.leaving last one for his lunch tomorrow .
--just finished the ham off with salad on pitta bread, and the last banana.with a cup of very strong tea as I used last drops of milk!
Does anyone know if I buy a fresh bottle and use it today and tomorrow morning would it be ok to freeze, ?? I've frozen unopened milk before, but unsure if it's safe once opened.

I am not "registered" with any of the supermarkets, nor do I use any points cards.... I simply don't spend enough to ever make it worthwhile; I can't use any voucher offers as I don't spend that much.

As for loyalty points, I do have a Nectar card and sometimes have it when I visit Sainsbobs .... but it took me about 2 years of having it/handing it over before I could finally reach the minimum criteria for it to pay out ... even paying out is a problem. First time I was "in the wrong supermarket/this is not your home registered one" - next time I hadn't spent enough or not enough items or something....

And now, 2-3 years on, the card's still nowhere near reaching the minimum amount.

They're not for singles.... they're for big spending families, tempting people into buying from them and spending with them - and overspending with them because the card gives them an illusion of getting something for nothing, so many don't see it as spending money at all, as if flashing the card and getting the points meant all their unnecessary purchases were "free".

Not sure you are correct in the "not for singles". Depends where you shop I guess

I have Morrison's card, which eventually gives me a fiver off my shopping, but it does collect points on diesel and garden plants, so it gradually builds up, plus vouchers sometimes, mostly rubbish ones like 10% off when spending over £40 type, of no use to me at all. Sometimes get a good one, like money off an item I actually would buy anyway

    Likewise Waitrose & Marks

I find the best for me is a cashback credit card, gradually builds up even at the rubbish 0.5 per £ spend which is deducted from my balance once per year

I prefer to tootle around the shops, even just looking and mooching but I would never spend enough these days to get "free delivery", however like Caron, if the need arose I would just take the hit on delivery charge

Weather a bit warm and chance of hotter tomorrow, mini spot of volunteer gardening, then corned beef salad baguette for lunch

Dinner is the other half of yesterday's pizza, maybe put some salad with it for a bit of a healthy hit
Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens

Morrisons I go to twice a year as it's a 12 mile round trip and it's tiny. There's no fuel there and no garden stuff (I don't buy garden stuff anyway).

I've not shopped in either of those. Although they are present where I now live, I used to live 60 miles from the nearest Waitrose and it was a 30 mile round trip for M&S.

I've been in them both ... and I'm a different income bracket ... and then you have to pay for parking to go in and see what they've got, so it's just not on my radar.

And add in the cost of the inevitable coffee at the supermarket to recover from the shopping - or is that just me:o

Top up in between in person - although that was a struggle today because I had some weird eye problem last night and although the vision is better I should probably have taken it easy today as I feel exhausted and a bit shaky._pale_
Nope definitely add in a cuppa and few random items that were on "offer"/ just fancied:o. Hope you are feeling better tonight x

No doubt mine would get munched too .
Your opened milk will fine to freeze as long as it's within it's use by date:)

I have both a Clubcard and a "Clubcard Credit Card" (which I use for everything but pay off every months) and it amazing how even as a single how the points mount up:)

I'm just off to make fishpie and I'm being "good" and topping it with potato slices rather than mash;). Swithering whether to have kale or runner beans with it, I'll put peas in the pie but do like something green alongside- might do a bit of both:)
  • Hi all:hello:

Been MIA for some days - as in going back to Home Area to see how the aged parents are and try and get things sorted out a bit for them. Basic answer summed up as "They ain't good - oh boy:(

I've done what I can for now I guess and I'm sighing with relief to be back at my home again actually.

So - been staying with a (very different to me) friend. By now - and An Incident pretty much anyone would object to (strongly) in that direction and that may not be an option when I go back in future. As in - I'd much rather stay safe and healthy thanks very much:cool: and with people who tell me the truth.

Food has been pretty darn unhealthy etc etc for some days - apart from meals I've bought whilst out and about (loadsa loadsa choice there at any rate:D).

But fruit and vegetables have been very conspicuous indeed by their absence (though I do hand over money to cover my food).

Tonight's dinner is loads and loads and loads of vegetables (some from my garden) and will be followed by loads and loads of fruit...

Got some spicy potato wedges finishing in the oven and large bowl of stirfry (with lots of seeds) and large bowl of salad. To be followed by as much fruit as I can stuff down myself. Whew...

Will be off to catch up on news in a minute.

Hello MTSTM - we wondered where you had got to. Good to have you back not so good that your parents are doing so well.

  • Both cats are doing well. Boy Cat seems to have developed an addiction ti crisps, together with a full on mugger mentality. Girl Cat is just as sookie as ever.

    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Just got this far:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Tomorrow My manager is coming round as I'm officially "retiring" on 30/09 so I need to hand back all my passes etc. I have to say it feels very odd that after almost 34 years I'll soon be an ex-civil servant :o

    Still catching up....

    Congrats on forthcoming retirement Caron.:beer::j

I came to loathe working for the Civil Service with an absolute passion personally and am still astonished at just how infrequently I ever think about all those years working for them.

I went into personally for two reasons basically - security for myself personally (cue for hollow laugh) and yep....I guess some sort of "public service ethos" of 'trying to be helpful'.

I guess you know just what I mean by now as to why I would be laughing in such a "hollow" way from recent years in the Civil Service.:eek::eek:

Anyway - you're free of it soon and try not to make the same sort of irreverent gestures at your old workplace as I do whenever I go past it.:rotfl:
