....5/5 fruit & veg so far

I forgot to post here re that .... it's THREE per day now :)
    Yes, 3.

According to the Lancet this week, you should go for three bigger portions (still ~400g/day) ... as there's no real benefit to having a bigger variety.

    Have 3, ~400 grams ... job done.

Today I've had 2 sausage rolls and a pack of cheese & onion crisps, so not even got started on that 3/day yet!

I would like to announce that I still feel my "new freezer system" (empty drawers) ... is still working. There's stuff in there often, but then I get focussed on eating something I've already got in so I can empty it again.

I've just ended up making a mac cheese again. Fab food ... why not have it two days running ... and I really couldn't think what else I'd really fancy ... and I didn't fancy making the shepherd's pie I should be making as I've spuds that need using up and lamb mince cluttering up the freezer.

Finally - and my latest cookbook turned up by post today - ie one recommended by a friend "Never too late to turn vegan - the over 50 guide".

Started flipping through it and spotted an almond miso sauce to have with a Buddha Bowl/hippie bowl. Said sauce obviously one that would take about 2 seconds flat in my Vitamix (ie mega-powerful blender). Now I've not tried white miso (or any miso) before - but had a packet waiting for my attention and blitzed together almonds, miso, bit of garlic powder. Followed by finding it was thick and clidgy - so chucked in some mylk (ie plant milk) the recipe hadnt specified.

Just had some of that sauce with cooked rice and quinoa, some roast cauliflower, some cucumber, some tomatoes, some olives and verdict - nom/nom/licks lips. Miso is blimmin' expensive imo - but 'twas nice.

    Well that experiment worked out:)

Now to see what the rest of that book holds in store for me...
Glad it worked out for you :) I can't quite get the taste for miso, it reminds me of cabbage water but I know it's very popular and although dear a little goes a long way

Caronc, you following me :D? That was my last night's dinner. Hope yours was as tasty as mine was
Fingers crossed it is the "spare" from one I made a few weeks ago using braised shredded beef short ribs so I'm hoping it still hits the spot:)

Hurrah sense at last :D I said at the outset of the "ten different types a day" suggestion on this and other threads that I went by weight of F&V and tried to eat as much variety as possible aiming for at least 400g eacxh day.... Three different per day sounds much more doable - especially for folk that are struggling money-wise or have "picky kids". So a large banana, a tea cup of peas or sweetcorn and goodish portion of cabbage/broccoli/cauliflower/green beans or baked beans would cover it and be so much easier on the wallet. I hope this get decent publicity ......

I do find I eat more varieties of F&V in the summer mainly because I grow stuff, but in the winter like most folks I'm restricted to what I can buy (with odd bits I've preserved or frozen) and unless you can shop frequently/have loads of freezer space there is a limit to how much variety of F&V CFOers can store.

Know the feeling - you have my sympathies. Main thing is you're fed nothing wrong with a jacket spud & cheese to fill a hungry space:)

I did it all in the nuke box - but a full sized portion.... with full/real cheese sauce.

7-8 minutes max, start to finish - and after I've drained the macaroni, I re-use the cooking dish to eat from :)
  • I think I shall stick to the new aim of "10 a day" myself - though it seems to have sunk pretty much without trace. Based on a pessimistic (probably realistic:cool:) view of what it's possible to get yer average British person to do one way or another.

The recent exercise recommendations are real "You're having a laugh aren't you?" stuff. They talk about making sure one has a 10 minute walk a day (yes...that is TEN minutes:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:). If that's realistic - then gawdhelp the NHS after that. The figures were being given of how much exercise the average British person takes per day - and it's low. It was split into agegroups and gets worse the older the person gets and is down to, I seem to recall, two-thirds of over-75's getting no exercise at all in effect:eek:.

Though, goodness knows, my own elderly parents have probably got to no exercise at all level these days (courtesy of their health levels are SO bad) and that's before one of them did themselves a major injury earlier this week - and I promptly googled the statistics on that and they're not good (only a 25% chance of getting back to what-passes-as-normal for them).

Sunny/bright - can't see any need/point in going out because I've nowhere to go to that's really needed. I do tend to only go out when it's needed as it costs money to leave the house.

I could, say, go car booting .... total spend about £20 for fuel/entry, tat I buy ... but then I've usually bought things on a whim. I have stopped myself mid purchase a few times recently by being mid-negotiation and then saying "No. I've changed my mind. It's not you, it's not the item, it's not the price...but I've just realised I can't buy things just because I like/want them" :)

There's a big air show on at the beach .... which I could drive to and park for free (willing to walk the last 2 miles or so) .... but I'm not interested in planes or crowds. And everybody else will be munching on nice looking food they bought - or sitting in groups with friends ...so it's a bit of a mood-downer when you're plodding about aimlessly on your own, with thoughts only of the cheese sandwich in your trolley....

    Food: No bl00dy idea whatsoever.

I'll probably have toast for breakfast (easy and bread needs using). I'll most likely have a cheeseburger later (last slice of emmental to use up of the first of three packs).

I feel the same. It's a sunny day here as well. I don't need anything either, so can't see the point in wandering about.
