August 2017 Grocery Challenge

Evening all
I think we're destined to go over our £105 Grocery Challenge budget. We did a small shop on Saturday which totalled £3.45 (carrots from the farm shop at Osterley Park, mushrooms and tortillas from MrT's). It's not that we need food - my freezer is full to bursting - but we've got friends staying over the weekend and that inevitably means needing to buy something, if only rolls for bacon butties. Our regular monthly grocery budget is £120 - we should still come in under that.
With this weekend's spend, that brings my totals to £103.39/£105, with £1.61 remaining to be spent."Be the type of woman that when you get out of bed in the morning, the devil says 'Oh crap. She's up.'
It ain’t what you do, it’s the way that you do it - that’s what gets results!
2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge 66 coupons - 25.5 spent.
4 - Thermal Socks from L!dl
4 - 1 pair "combinations" (Merino wool thermal top & leggings)
6 - Ukraine Forever Tartan Ruana wrap
8 - 4 x 100g/450m skeins 3-ply dark green Wool Local yarn

- loads of avocados, vegan food of the gods! £2 for 6, happy with that.
Gosh - wish I could buy them that cheaply here - sigh
; now I rifle through the freezer, I'm not needing veggies for a good while except maybe an onion. But I hate slicing onions, so maybe not.
I use a mandolin for slicing onions etc. Very quick and easy - but mind your fingers
Hope you all have a super Tuesday

Doom & Gloom - they were out of everything in my Lidl - not too fussed, i'm sure they will come around again - hope you enjoy them.BrassicWoman wrote: »to use up my vegan cheese which does not taste great (not buying again!) but is fine in a sausage roll stuffed with pickle too
Spent £10.55 on fruit and salad stuff and some bits in Lidl. A few rather large chocolate bars fell in2 my basket. Did not get a lot of what I wanted, but have more than enough to be using, so will leave it at that. Have updated sig.0 -
What cheese did you get, I like the Tesco Free From Jalapeno and Sainsburys Free From Caramelized Onion.
violife slices for burgers - more for the look of the thing than the taste. I quite like cashew cheese when I can find it, mozerizella, and tofutti cream cheese The rest I really struggle with! So mainly I'm at pricey health food shops.2021 GC £1365.71/ £24000 -
well I was already over budget but had to buy loo rolls (£1.99 for 9) and milk.
THEN at work they were selling off lots of fruit cheap and we didnt have a great deal in so that was another £1.03 but I did get 2 punnets of cherries, 3 punnets of blackberries, pack of peaches, punnet of strawberries and a large punnet of British plums! That should last the week (already got some apples and bananas)Emma

Have a Tesco.voucher I can use, so may stock up on plant milk (as running out)and some other vegan staples. Will try and report back, but constantly.busy. not even much time to browse any more.
Did the Tesco shop since posting this, which came tp £65 odd I think, but no plant milk on offer. Also did an Amazon France order for coffee pods, but mad a boob and orderedthe same thing twice. So it came to £70 odd not £35. Icould have done without the double expense, but i am sure by the time I should have been running out I would have probably not been able to afford them, so its done and dusted now and will last twice the normal amount of time.GC Jan £101.91/£150 Feb £70.96/150 Mar £100.43/150 Apr £108.45 app/150 May £149.70/150 Jun £155.15/150 July £74.69/£150 (includes food, toiletries and cleaning from 13th to 12th of each month. Veg lasagne in the slow cooker for dinner tonight. Might have to buy another loaf of bread at this rate, or I could make one this evening - it'll be the fourth since Saturday, which is ridiculous. Need to do some lunchbox baking as well if I'm going to avoid a top-up shop.
Asked Mr E to bring home a little treat for the girls last night because we'd had a long busy hard day. I meant a 50c lollipop each, he came home with a box of Cornettos and a family bag of crisps. The man's incorrigible. Still, he did make a beef casserole that did us for two nights instead of one-plus-lunch, so I guess he's forgiven. $345 left of $950, looking good for once.MFW diary here. 1 Feb 2017 $229,371 - MFD Feb 2043  aiming for May 2028

8 days into our month and only spent on one big aldi shop-£47. £173 left of budget with 22 days to go. So very positive numbers there for us!
Anyone find STAYING OUT OF SHOPS an absolutely essential tactic when trying to stick to/reduce food spend? Even in a food shop I never fail to end up with things I didn't go in for! Where is my self control :rotfl:0 -
