August 2017 Grocery Challenge

Doing OK this week I think - £69.24 so far in August and this included sm shop at the weekend, but I deliberately didn't get the whole weeks supplies and have topped up since. This seems to have worked out cheaper somehow! Maybe because if I buy "the week's" supply of biscuits etc. at once, they get eaten in 3 days...:rotfl:
Definitely going to look at the cheap family website, I followed a link to it ages ago but it had disappeared for a while.
On hol next week so will be tracking spends on my phone. Hope the weather is kind.GC Feb 2019 (to 10th) £397.07/£3000 -
£3.85 at the coop on non essentials.Do I need it or just want it.0

This is so true for me as well! Bulk buying can be theoretically cheaper but if the stuff's not in the cupboard then it doesn't get eaten so you save that way. What I've done sometimes is buy multipacks etc. on the way to work and keep them in my desk. It's less easy to eat a whole pack of biscuits or more than one bag of crisps there because I'd be judged (or would feel as if I were anyway).
Had to buy some more cheese yesterday so am now pushing £100 but so far today's been a no spend so fingers crossed.0 -
Hello all. I was doing the Grocery Challenge and the Eating From the Pantry/Freezer Challenge all the way up until end of April but I got off track due to heavy work schedule, several family health issues and lots of travel. I'm back now and would like to restart. For those who remember, I have an OH but he's in Europe right now and I'm back in the USA for the summer until 24/8. So, I'm only really monitoring the budget for myself. Here's what I'm thinking for August:
GROCERIES
1/8 - 24/8 = $150 budget
25/8 - 31/8 = €40 (I'll be staying in a hotel so these will be room snacks)
EATING OUT
4/8 - 24/8 = $240 budget (I have a lot of people to see in the next three weeks.)
25/8 - 31/8 = €140 (Again, due to staying in a hotel so no real cooking facilities.)
STOCKING UP
There are some items I want / need to get in the US that I can't really get in Europe or are way cheaper here in New York. Those include face creams, low-sugar snacks, etc. My budget for that will be about $150. Looking at that now, it feels like a huge amount and I'll try to keep it lower than that.
Thanks so much to Zippy & Coxy for maintaining this. The last couple of weeks I really felt my spending getting out of control and found myself missing the camaraderie of the forums.0 -
Spent £20.42 since last post.
£61.47/£155.
£93.53 left.I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy0 -
NSD fail! Ended up in city office unexpectedly.
£5:10 breakfast (slept in!) and cake for office
£3:35 works shop - cheap toiletries, very bargainous
£5.55 on way home, could not resist M&S YS. Crumpets x 2, vegan jelly, prepared squash for a casserole, vegan potato salad (poppy seed and lemon!), avocados, 2 loaves delicious sprouted bread.
So mainly bargains, but blown week one budget!
To be back on track I think I need to spend nothing until next Friday (10th)Should be ok as I have SO MUCH IN!!! I just love my YSs!
2021 GC £1365.71/ £24000 -
First shop of August done.
£18.75 in Aldi
£36.46 in Morrisons
My Morrisons shop included fresh broad beans that they were selling loose for 20p per kilo or £2 per kilo if you bought them ready bagged. Not sure what the difference is but I was very pleased as they were on my shopping list and I thought I'd have to buy frozen or tinned.
Also got OH some beers on offer and lost one when the bottle carrier broke as I was unloading the car :sad:Original MF Date January 2035. MF Date February 20220 -
Mr T delivery came this morning and I went to Aldi for the rest of my list. The house is stuffed with food now but I have enough meat for the month except a few sausages, all the food for our camping trip and snacks and a picnic tea for our other trip, 2 weeks of dog food, lots of GF beer and lots of other stuff too.
Total is now £185.87 and I have set aside £25 for some beer for DH next weekend and a few perishables. This will leave me £75/week for the last 2 weeks of the month.Save £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%
Pay off £7000 - £1743 - 19.4%
Make £2021 extra income - £99.750 -
Don't send your OH shopping!
To be fair we did need some bigger buy things, but OH went shopping and he spent £13.33, and then because there were no potatoes we spent £1.80 on chippy shop chips.
£194.14/£250 total spends
£55.86, which in theory is plenty.Debt Free Stage 1 - Completed 27/08/2020

Morning everyone.
Yesterday wasn't the nsd that I'd planned... Bought two multipacks of crisps, less than £2, for the journey home yesterday evening. Then broke down but managed to get the car back to mum's (was about 10pm) so stayed over and didn't eat the crisps! Still, they'll come in for something. We're still stranded here waiting to be towed back home, but safe to say I'll be changing provider asap, as it cost me loads extra... Boooo!!
Today will end up being a nsd as I'll have no car.
