If she still isn't in a school, could you insist on some 1:1 video sessions, to check up on how she is doing ? It isn't just the lack of education or "social" learning that worries me now, it is complete control over her.

Right so, I have been on phone to Citizens advice and they cannot advise in my area, they can only assist with Consumer advise.

The webchat services does not work I have been trying for over a week.

Does anyone know where I can get free advise, I have tried googling and cannot find any.

Phone local solicitors and ask how much they charge for an initial consultation - some offer a free half hour.

Thank you all, best I can find is £118 for an hour. I just haven't got that kind of money spare. I will have to save up ... thanks again.

Do you live anywhere near a University with a Law department? Some run pro-bono units or clinics to allow students to offer advice.
All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)

I will have to do this by myself as I cannot afford representation and I feel like I will be ok. I will let you know the outcome.... in about a year.

    Wish me luck :)

    Hi,

My daughter has been taken out of school by her mother due to bullying. I am separated from her mother but we have always worked together to bring our two children up the best way possible.

She is in year 7 and I see this as a vital time to develop her education and social experiences. I supported the decision to remove her from the school she was in for the bullying reason (we went through the safeguarding officer route to no avail). I applied for her to start year 8 in a better school and her mother was happy with that at first. But now she wants to "Home School" my daughter which I am not happy about. I have spoken to education welfare and social services and they have advised me to seek legal advise. I have PR but I don't feel like I have a voice as nobody seems to care.

I have emailed education welfare and chased it up but no response. I have called them and they have said seek legal advise.

The mother has told me she is happy home schooling her and the school I applied for is "too much hassle" even though the ofstead reports are really good. I told her I would help with the commute 3 days a week and she can do two days but she refused.

They went on a 2 week holiday and she is staying at her friends for a long weekend which I know a school would not allow, so why is she allowed to do this? I am also concerned as my younger daughter who is ion year 6 is going to the school that my other daughter was bullied in, so I can see this happening all over again.

What rights do I have, how can I avoid solicitor fees etc and get my children into a decent school this September.

    Thanks in advance.

Was more than a few years ago, but I removed my child because of bullying...I let the education department and the school know he wasn't returning until they sorted the problem ( this was pre net days, so snail mail) and told them I would be contacting the local paper.

Within 3 days the problem had been sorted.

Just stand your ground, complain officially and make a fuss, because schools want to brush over the problem.

    Good luck.

    Lin 😊
You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)

Are you in a union through work? My O.H gets some legal help through C.W.U.

I think you've had all the practical advice relevant to your initial question.

As always, I'm disappointed by the general fear displayed regarding home education and wonder what it is based on. I've never met anything but the best examples of educated well rounded individuals from the home schooled folk I've met. What is so good/beneficial about school? My children haven't been home educated, but I have no doubt it is the best way to educate in theory; parents are instigators and managers of the process, not the sole teacher for all subjects (obviously.) As for social skills - that's a key reason to home educate - they have far more advanced skills in this area generally.

Bullying can be life altering and it's important to deal with it appropriately to ensure it stops. Good luck reaching a solution that everyone is reasonably happy with OP.

I would much rather been home schooled than suffered the bullying i endured in school. I think if its the best course and your daughter is happy then thats all that matters

  • I think tough love is needed here. Next time you are with your daughter you need to take her down to the nearest Aldi or Lidl for a walk around. Find the most heavily tattooed, knuckle dragging member of staff and point them out to your daughter and inform her that if she doesn't change her mind on this home schooling then that will be her career highlight if she is lucky.

Get it understood that homeschooling might be great for some but by the sounds of things she'll just be sat at home all day in front of Jeremy Kyle, texting her mates at school about what a great time she's having. Tell her it's a cruel world and to ignore the bullies and get on with it.
