A no spend day today woo hoo. We went swimming with Pickle (hubby paid) the. Straight home and back out again to the Crèche for the little ones while the main conference is running. Nap time and then Pickle was hard work this afternoon. So we didn't leave the house again. All good
    For the finances.

  • Well and truly in 'middle of the month financial desert' with really not much going on. All the direct debits and automated debit card payments have been paid for the month, so no more tilly tidies to be done from there. It's overtime and expenses deadline today, my boss authorised by half day overtime (quiet month this month!) and expenses (only £50 ish) yesterday so they will be paid on the 30th. Between now and next deadline day I have 1 trip booked in, which is standard time, not overtime, but there will be some expenses.
Yesterday was interesting. Hubby's stage manager was poorly, so I had to step in. I've not staged managed since my uni days, so it was a little tense, but everyone and everything ended up in the right place at the right time.
As a result the top up shop didn't get done so tea wasn't exactly healthy due to the lack of veggies. A job for this morning. As long as I don't spend more than £64 today (I blooming hope it's not that much even in spensive supermarket) I've still got £20 a day in the budget. The next two weeks will be more expensive as more people are around for us to socialise with. Even so, I do feel I'm doing really well with the budget this year.

  • Well, I was hoping o wouldn't spend more than the £64 and I haven't - just!!! B00th5 is sooo expensive. £27 for a few bits. £15 in the butchers, plus a pickle treat ice cream and breakfast pastries with a friend and that's £60 !!!!!! gone! My daily allowance is down to £20.22,
So at least it is over the £20 I wanted and we should (I hope) only need some bread & milk until this time next week. As I've said previously. The next two weeks will be more spends than last week as we have more people here to see. My motivation to keep the spends down though is my 13 step plan.....

Yes we are here, week 2 starts today. As for family time, that's the theory, but there are a few personnel challenges this year tha hubby is having to cover, so we are seeing less of him.
Never mind, lots of friends around for the next two weeks so lots of people to see.

  • Oops, it's been a few days since I posted, but that's because my financial life is wildly boring and not because I've had some major retail blow out. It doesn't feel like the bank accounts have moved for days. I've had some low spend days and some no spend days, the budget for the remaining time away (11 days) is looking quite healthy. The most I've taken out of the bank in recent days is £10 and I've not used my card at all.
I will spend today, the techie boys (sound, light& you tube streaming) are going to have their haircuts, so I'm going to tag along with Pickle and get his mop done too.
We (or rather hubby) has had a bad night with him. The first one in ages, so not sure what the deal for today is: 7:20 and no sign of the Pickle being awake is concerning. How long were they up for in the night?

My work payslip should arrive today, I know roughly what it will be, but tax rebates etc make it hard to know exactly. I can't wait to give YNAB a little Work out.

Oh, can everyone stop talking about heatwaves please? It's not the whole country at all, in the lakes it's just 'not quite as rainy as normal'

  • A beautiful Lakeland day today and, thanks to a non sleeping Pickle last night, much of it was spent inside. He had his lunch at 11 and was back in bed for a nap at 11:30 and didn't get up until nearly 2.
After this he got his hair cut (£8) looks good we had ice cream (3 of us £7.50) and then I bought tickets for Pickle And I to a music show tomorrow afternoon (£8) this amazingly comes in at 50p under the daily budget. Miracles do occur.
Tomorrow is another unknown quantity, then from Thursday we are into single
    Figures before we head home.

Oh, in other news, Work payslip arrived today, I'm going to be paid for half an hour's over time not half a day! Oops, error. It will be rectified, but not until next month - oh well, it all goes into savings anyway.

3a) daily allowance from 'lakes budget' £23.60 (-40p) - gone down becuase I took £20 cash out of the bank then paid an additional £8 on the card for the tickets. I still have some of today's cash left.

Hope Pickle slept better last night and that you can get out today to enjoy the good weather.
  • Thanks Busy, yes, he slept much better - didn't call to be released from his prison (aka cot) until 7:30 this morning. We've been put a bit today but, dare I say it, it's just been too hot! (I have never said that in the Lake District before).

A nsd hooray - not keeping count this
Month, but feel like I'm not doing too worse than normal, I also counted up and I've got £9 ish in cash in my purse too, that's nearly half a day's allowance.

Down to 9 day's remaking of this little trip and tomorrow's allowance will increase to £26.22. I do have another 'weekly shop in the spensive supermarket' coming up, but working on a basic allowance of £20 a day, I think I can cover the shopping with the amount above that £20. We'll see though.

All in all, very boring in Wish's financial world. End of the month coming up, but I've already done most of my tilly tidying and I've only got my wages (reduced due a payroll error) and work expenses left to account for. I'm not going to make my £900 mop pot target and probably not even my mfw target either this month - it's amazing how much difference a couple of half days of supply makes.
    Never mind.
Come the 4th August, anything left in the current spends pot will be transferred into the 13 step plan and mop pot, I've got a work trip with decent mileage expenses
Coming up, and I'll receive the pay I won't get at the end of this month. So loooking better already.
September should be at least 2 additional work days and October already has 1 additional day booked

  • Just Popping in with a quick 'pay day' update. All money for the month is now in and targets haven't been met :( but, I've still added £600 to the 13 step plan, to put this in context, my normal, basic salary is £591 (net) so I've saved my entire salary this month (thanks to supply work, over time, expenses and being savvy) I really cannot complain about that. There is also the mop pot and the 1p a day challenge amount which are in addition to the £600 in the 'offset' plan.
We're on the final stretch of our time away. Daily allowance amount has fluctuated slightly. Today should have been £28.50, but my 13 step plan was sitting at £595, and I couldn't let that happen, so I sacrificed £5 from the entire amount which has less than £1 a day effect on my daily allowance.

I've not decided what I'm going to do about August yet, need to number crunch. By not meeting this month's targets August's targets will increase as it's based on the average required each month for the plan, alternatively I can keep the starting target the same as this month, then roll over the undersave to catch up.
    Hmm
I'm thinking towards option 1 as it's August, no supply work, and only half a day additional hours at work.
I'm hoping I'll have a little boost at the start of the month with any 'holiday' money left over being able to be added to the pots.
    Hmmm ponder ponder....
    Have a good day everyone.
