What About An Investment Forum?

Options
Lots of people are asking questions about investments (shares, funds etc.). What do people think about a seperate forum for such questions and perhaps some stickies with idiots guides to investing and investing terminology etc. :)
Noobie (not so :D) trying to make loads a dosh - please bear with all my questions  Thanks :D

Good idea. :) One problem might be that people tend to use the words "save" and "invest" interchangeably, so there might initially need to be quite a bit of thread moving by board guides.

However IMHO it would be an "educational" thing to do.It's obvious that a lot of misselling and confusion arises because people don't really understand the difference - particularly in the area where the weasel word "bond" is used.

They end up losing money because they have been misled about the level of risk.

Splitting the forum so that people could clearly see what is saving (safe but low return) and what is investing (involves some level of risk for higher reward) could be a great help in teaching people how to use both methods to increase their wealth.
    Trying to keep it simple...;)

perhaps an EdInvestor versus dunstonh forum may be more appropriate!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I could move this thread to the Site Feedback board if you like, that way it can be looked into by the important peeps? :D

Something to consider is whether there is sufficient demand for investment topics on an additional sub-board...

I do think this thread should be a sticky:
Ok then - How do I choose a S&S ISA!

Unfortunately as dunstonh says in #4 on that thread, the nature of investments varies significantly from savings. For a detailed explanation, have a look at Martin's sticky at the top of the Savings Board:

It shouldnt be a sub board. We have a very quiet ISA board and a very busy savings and investments board. You could split the load better over the two by having one for savings and one for investments instead of the two current ones.
I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.

Yes please. It makes sense to me. Savings is already subdivided into special ISA and current account boards. It seems odd that Investments is lumped togther with savings in general.

I agree the separate ISA and current account boards are a wast of time and should be combined with a single Savings board and there should be a separate investment board.

However i am just thinking there are often posts saying I have for example 50K to invest when it is not clear initially whether the guy wants savings or investments.

Sorry, I (wrongly) assumed you were asking for a sub-board! :o

I'll shift this over to Site Feedback then... :D
