Why do people need to 'turn their heating on'? My heating system has a programmable thermostat/timer and TRVs.

So does mine with the added sophistication of a Hive unit. I turn my heating off because, otherwise, the boiler pilot light needlessly guzzles gas over the summer months.

money savers turning on central heating in june :)

Living in the far north it's a rare year that I get even a month with no heating on.

We aren't all blessed with warm weather, we still get snow in June and again as early as October

Not the far north but we lived in Durham for over ten years and agree that it can be considerably colder than in the South West where we now live. One of our favourite beaches was at Bamburgh but you often needed your coat on even in summer thanks to the cold winds.

I have a digital room stat which is nicely programmed for what heating I want in the winter. The boiler is set to on for heating in the winter, and goes on/off as per the programmes set on the stat, but in summer the heating is set to off. As I don't want the heating popping on, on a "cool" evening when I have been melting all day, and it gives the house chance to cool down.
