Our hallway is still 24 degrees, been living in shorts for two weeks. I refuse to put the heating on until 1st Nov even if it was cold.

I guess there's always two sides to every story and there's a fine line between being a money saver and what is best for your health, especially in my case, and maybe that of others? :)

My heating's been on, sometimes it even goes on in August. I associate coldness with misery so would rather save money elsewhere.

I had to put my central heating on as well, I was sitting at my computer and my hands were cold.

Why suffer because someone says you don't need additional heating in June.

Why do people need to 'turn their heating on'? My heating system has a programmable thermostat/timer and TRVs.

The only time it gets switched off is during the annual servicing. There is no need to switch it on and off based on the weather, it does it itself as required subject to my timer and temperature settings.

I agree that if someone is feeling cold then they may well need to put on the heating. I can't see though how unless elderly or in poor health heating is needed just now. The temperatures aren't that low, I think the dull wet days may it seem cooler.

That is fine, but many people still have the older style gravity fed hot water and CH systems, where the hot water is on whenever the CH is on. So, even if the heating pump is controlled by a thermostat, the water tank is being heated by the boiler as it sees fit. Good insulation on the water tank will minimise the gas usage, but will not beat having the heating off and hot water on for, say, one hour a day...

My heating has a thermostat and timer with the thermostat set at 21 deg C so if the temp drops below that during the night the heating come on for a brief moment at 07:30 which the timer is set at.

My thermostat has a button I press which sets a temp of 15 deg C until I push it again so effectively the heating is off.

I could pay £100s for a fancy programmable thermostat but for a couple in their 70's who have the heating on all day it's not very cost efficient.

Fully believe that you should keep warm but my heat goes off at 0830 until 1630 unless the temp drops below 20deg c. Likewise when it goes of from 2230 until 0630 and the temp drops below 18deg c. I'm also in my seventies.
