Had a visit from the fire service today. They were checking on fire alarms and giving general advice re not exiting the building, turning off switches not in use etc. They checked our alarms whilst here. We don't have cladding but due this year - however the regulations are different in Scotland anyway. Think it was mainly a PR exercise but great to see that they are doing this, as some residents, especially the older ones, are probably a bit frightened with all that's been happening.
Have finally given in and put the heating back on. I am already wearing a jumper and long socks but really chilly today and v wet.
We've had the new HMS QE 'boatface' parked dead opposite since about 6.00 this evening. It was accompanied by what looked like a frigate, but it's so gloomy that it was difficult to see very well. One of the v large cruise ships went out and, probably for the passengers to get a good look, passed really close (they usually go out much further over). The cruise ship gave a two-hoot acknowledgement, boatface replied with a three-hoot, and the cruise ship gave another two-hoot. Shame the weather was so dire as not good enough for pictures.

Just checking in to say in was rubbish again yesterday. Tuesdays and Thursdays are always rubbish for me when it comes to cleaning and tidying as the toddler (aka the destroyer) is home all day. But I did manage to convince her to tidy enough of her toys away that I could vacuum through and I also washed the kitchen windows from monday0

Morning all. Just a tad damp and miserable, and it started last night so I didn't get any MADs done in the garden.
Just about to get dressed and clean the bathroom before the paid stuff.
Have a great day everyone.Spend less now, work less later.0 -
Finally it has rained here overnight - enough to dampen the dust down on the unmetalled road behind our house, even under the trees, and my garden plants are already looking a lot happier :j Might get out there later for a MAD half hour.
But it will be much later. I have a busy morning on placement (which will mean lots of chatting and drinking :coffee:), then a meeting with my regular supervisor and lots of forms to fill in, now that I'm almost half-way through my course
It's a good thing I cleaned all through the house on Monday!
To do today:
- Water all indoor plants, hanging baskets and tubs
- Clean windows in LR and 3 bedrooms
- Make two and freeze one of basic bolognaise
- Send a text message to someone I emailed last week and haven't had a reply from (but I may have used her old email address)
- Do a MAD of preparation for leading the church service on Sunday morning
- Compare actual energy standing charge and per-unit prices for a possible new fixed tariff with what I'm paying now - the energy comparison websites appear to factor in the ending of my current deal in September and estimate what it would cost me for the 12 months from now if I went onto an expensive non-fixed tariff from Sepotember for the rest of the year: I think they're showing more of a saving than I would actually get if I stayed put until September and swopped to the best tariff then, IYSWIM. However, there is no exit fee from my current supplier, so I can go now if I want to. Complicated!
- Check what cards I need for birthdays and anniversaries in July. DS2 and his wife will be celebrating their 10th wedding anniversary - we get to have DGS3+4 for 4 nights while they go away for a romantic break! (I'm not planning anything much for the following week except sleep :rotfl:)
- spend some time with DH, who is miserable again because his ankle swelled up after a day on the railway on Saturday and is still not much better. He has a physio appointment re his hips tomorrow morning, so I hope the physiotherapist will give him some stern advice!
Glad to hear that your DH's finger is getting better, FBO.
Sorry to hear that you're going through a bad patch with DS2 and not just 2 but 3 elderly relatives, dancemum.
(((Hugs))) spoons and sticks all round, as needed x0 -
Bathroom all sparkly. Time to look at today's list.Spend less now, work less later.0

Morning!
Upstairs painting is happeningand I'm glad I haven't bought flooring yet - think I'm going to need to go lighter.
But dr back to rights after last nights guests, we had a lovely night but it was a late one. Even the kiddies struggled to get up this morning. Yawn. One of my friends is seriously thinking of moving away (back to Wales as it happens) so a bit sad about that but totally understand the reasons.
Kitchen also sorted and DW just finished. We had Chinese takeaway which was really nice - got a jumble of stuff and just all shared. But boy did the house smell this morning, lol, so I've had both front and back doors open, in the rain, just to let some air blow through.
There's not really much else I can do now, although I did find a pile of old cables and camera and phone boxes so I'll see if I can get rid of any of that...Bossymoo
Away with the fairies :beer:0
