Proud mum moment - Josh has received his graduation invitation. It's been a long road but we are almost there.

Proud mum moment number 2 - Joe didn't back off on applying for the China student trip, he finds out tomorrow if his application has been successful.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Pastures, it's interesting what you say about down-sizers. We've been looking in a vague sort of way, and the costs of moving are so high that it's only worthwhile if we downsize a lot. So, none of our furniture will fit in the smaller house, and that's another cost to factor in.

As you say, we are ideally looking for a place with half the bedrooms but the same size downstairs, at a third of the price of our present home, and of course it doesn't exist. At least, not in the area we've been living in for over 20 years.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I always say "To get what you want downstairs, you have to start with a 3 bed...." But "agents/professionals" often speak of having too much downstairs and "not enough bedrooms".

I think most downsizers still want a good sized kitchen, large living room, utility room, porch, garage.... but the minute you've got all that stuff downstairs developers shove all the extra bedrooms upstairs because they make money from "getting in the most bedrooms possible".

It's the house everybody wants, but "all the professionals" tell us is wrong..... because nobody thinks of a market for "older people" who have a life of stuff and want the space/storage room and utility etc downstairs.... but only want to pop upstairs once a day to go to sleep :)

"Ah, but there are bungalows" ... they say. Trouble is, they tend to be pricier and, increasingly these days, "over-developed" as "family homes with the wow factor", or "haven't been touched for decades" so appeal to people who do want to give it the wow factor and can live elsewhere while they rip it apart and spend another £60k on it.

I don't want a living room smaller than I have here. So many are 14'x10' or so - which is "just a corridor you can put a sofa in" :)

I’m always looking at business opportunities in a vague sort of way. I won’t jump in with a low ‘as a rough guide’ offer unless it’s in liquidation though, and even then may not proceed when I have the relevant paperwork.

I don’t see the point in wasting people’s time by putting low offers in left, right and centre.

I've lost my slippers... I wear them all the time - and the last thing I did when I left the house was to "pop them away out of sight" under the stairs. I remember sliding them in and thinking "that's handy" as I'd found a new corner for them.... but now I can't find them, so now I can't remember where was that handy corner I slid them into.

They'll turn up, no doubt, in the next hour or so, when I've done "man looking" 6x ... but it's annoying :)

Joe's application for the China summer school was successful...he is all rather excited, now he just has to worry about the finances part of it although he should get some of it funded.

Well done Joe. I’m sure it will be a great experience. Hope the finances work out, when my son did it, the funding was good, even included a Chinese SIM card loaded with funds and spending money whilst there. Only thing he paid for were flights, even then there was a group deal available.

Luckily he is the one who squirrels away money all the time and has a bit of a buffer, so coupled with some uni funding, hopefully he should be ok. No idea how we are going to handle his nerves, he is not going to be able to ring me from China every time he leaves the uni as he does now when he goes out and about.

    Well done Joe.

I've just ordered a new printer and am hoping it will be as easy to set up as PNs was recently. Accidentally signed up to flipping prime trial too.
