....why deprive yourself of it?
Because then you get into the realms of matching and coordinating ... and it all gets too hard
Personally, I like a bit of cheery bright plastic and a lot of my kitchen stuff is bright plastics. Multi coloured plastic beakers, plastic side plates, differently coloured plastic utensils.... bright plastic washing up bowl and drainer.
The trouble with matching is you have to keep it up - go random and there's no matching to consider.
Of course, for the purposes of viewings, these things have been tidied away out of sight for now0 -
I'm in the process of renewing my glassware and crockery.
It's interesting, because years ago, plates and bowls used to be sold in sets of 6, yet now, so many are sold in sets of 4.
I wonder if that's due to demand, or if it's the manufacturer's same logic as reducing the size of Mars bars?(I just lurve spiders!)

Shrinkflation!
(I had to look it up. I wonder if it's made the dictionary yet?)No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Sue You'd better get some Vocalzone throat pastilles
just to tide you over until Joe is managing.
silvercar DGD's older brother is at the local boys' non-selective, which gives DGD high priority for a place at its sister school for girls. It's not wonderful, but it may well have to do. She is very intelligent, but dyslexia slows her down0 -
Yes it has! OED are very good at keeping up with new words.

I've no glasses whatsoever. I drink from cheery plastic beakers
For plates etc, I buy singles. Again, "if nothing matches you don't have to worry about matching things" - I've got three dinner plates now, one is plain white/oval and the other two have green and grey dots on. All from £land.
I've two bowls that are good for eating whole meals from, or two weetabix. £land/similar.
I've 2 matching "side plates" in a swirled "spun" red colour - and one Portmeirion (maybe a botanic) I got at a car boot for 10p.
I mostly eat from plastic picnic plates and a couple of melamine plates I bought (Xmas design!)... they're used for all the "non messy food" like toast, sandwiches, biscuits, cold bit of quiche ... small stuff where no sauce is involved.
I bought two mugs for 50p and another of a different shape for about £1. These are mostly used for cooking my cooked breakfasts and heating beans. I've a mug I "inherited" that's a good size for making yorkshire batter.0 -
I remember getting a bottle of detergent cheaper in one shop and when we took it home we realised the bottle looked almost as wide, deep and tall as our usual bottles but was tapered differently so it was smaller without looking it. They're clearly putting loads of thought into this.
I've been noticing lots of manifestations of this. Shrinking chocolate bars. Wider apart peaks in toblerone bars, rolls of goods with wider internal tubes so they're mostly empty space.
Some toilet rolls are made of narrower paper since people would notice if there are fewer sheets or if it the tissue was thinner but they can save money by using a shorter internal tube to cut the width of the sheets IYSWIM.There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
You could always choose on a room each basis.
I'm afraid I don't do neutral.
COLOUR! That's what cheers Life up!
Nature is full of colour, (unless you live in the Arctic!) so why deprive yourself of it?
I'm with Pyxis on this one. I like carpet too - in living rooms and bedrooms, that is, not in kitchens and bathrooms. And I don't like open plan.
I am not on trend.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
Open plan is a bonkers craze. It's only suitable for a single person dwelling and even then I don't rate it. In a multi-person house with different TV and musical tastes it's a recipe for misery.
I can understand dining rooms merged with kitchens, but not with living rooms.
Utility rooms could be combined with kitchens too but they'd be better with bathrooms, and best of all upstairs. Our first house had that, and it was amazingly practical.
If a house has a bathroom it needs at least one separate toilet. Our last three houses all had that.
Our dining room converts into our guest bedroom; we don't need it to be both at any time. Our village is awash with eating places and well-connected with other parts of London to visit. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0
