Dear Sue, my heart goes out to you and your family. These decisions are very difficult. Looking back, I prob made the wrong decision for my Dad when I was asked if he should be treated for pneumonia - I opted for treatment. He was in a home, and hated it. Perhaps I should have let him go then. I think whatever we decide we'll worry about it. Sending you and your family cyber hugs.

Hey Pastures, so glad you've got some viewers booked!
I thought your house looked really good when I saw the photos. :j Uncluttered but homely with the flowers and vases. I'm sure it'll be snapped up, especially with the Planning Permission in place. Sending Vibes for a speedy sale to you.
Can't remember if I told you about my "pet" bumble bee who visited caravan most days? She visited the day after my 70th birthday, and once more 2 days later. They don't live enormously long, depending on their breed. We're still keeping a small vase of nasturtium flowers in place, but it's well over a week since we saw her. Who would think you could get attached to a visiting insect? :rotfl: We're both missing her.
Still battling with caravan problems, but too much to go into just before lunch (taragon chicken with broad beans and fried potatoes).0 -

Viewing is for a place that has 2 year old owned solar panels (producing ~£1600/year they say).
I'm fearful of the ongoing costs and the future maintenance problems that might be encountered (as I'd not have the nouse/budget to fix that)....
It's not a critical answer that's required, just a general opinion/mulling, as this place is top of budget and doesn't give me the extras I desired... location's right, but no garage and no conservatory. Annoyingly, the house did have a garage when it was built, in a block, but she flogged that off... having that garage would've raised it from a "not really/maybe" to a "go on then".
With regard to the garage, you might have had similar problems with ferals using the area in front of the block as a playground, or the garage being broken into, or access to it being blocked by inconsiderates, etc. etc., so I wouldn't fret about that.(I just lurve spiders!)

PV is a good earner, 1600 sounds a high for panels installed 2 years ago though - ask to see evidence, half that or less is more likely. The invertor should have art least a 5 year warranty, possibly extendable for a few hundred, a new one is likely to be about 600-1000, however if it does stop working you don't have to get it fixed but you then lose the 800pa income. There are no reports of problems with the panels or the panels causing problems with the roof (beyond being in the way if you want to extend into the loft). You can use the leccy the panels generate for free but how much electricity do you use on sunny afternoons? (Unless your next car is electric).
Is there room to build a garage and/or conservatory? One you build now is bound to be better than any manky old ones that are currently on a house.I think....0 -
You're absolutely right, but it'd have been nice to have had it ... could've rented it out if it gave me angst. The front of the property is fully block paved, with no front wall/similar. From satellite views I can see 2 cars parked there and easily space for a 3rd without hindering the side door access path. With regard to the garage, you might have had similar problems with ferals using the area in front of the block as a playground, or the garage being broken into, or access to it being blocked by inconsiderates, etc. etc., so I wouldn't fret about that.
It's not ideal, say it's £307k, but a brand new one appears to be being built 2-3 doors along with only 2 beds and room to park 2 at £299k, so the price isn't hideously out of sync... she paid £287 with the garage in 2016 when it was brand new. It's not the price... I'd have enough leftover for a couple of takeaway dinners (but not a replacement car) ... it's the bits and bobs. I want the moon on a stick.
Personally, I'd have preferred this one to have been a few years older (owner less likely to be attached to the asking price) ... with a conservatory at least for the price.
That's the trouble, you see all these houses with all the bits and bobs - and the more you see, the more bits and bobs you want - and when you set the price range a bit low ... you suddenly want all those bits and bobs at the lower prices

Perhaps the NPs could have a whip round, not sure how much more I'd need, so I could buy a house with all the bits and bobs etc.... it'd be less than £100k I'd need.
Who has the biggest hat to pass round?
The reality is, no matter how much, or how little, you have to spend - you never get the perfect house, with all the bits and bobs do you....
It looks like I'd need about £450k to have "a little bit of choice", whereas "it'll have to do" starts at about £350-360k

Wasn't there a house earlier that had a conservatory and a garage?
Can't remember the details.
I must admit, I'd KILL for a garage.(I just lurve spiders!)

We have an integral garage. The Aygo fitted into it comfortably. The Juke and BMW are a touch too wide. Now that the Aygo has gone, the garage has become home for more clutter.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I've a viewing on one that has both - but I'm sure it's got a shaded back garden.
Quite a lot are overshadowed or surrounded by big trees.... I don't do trees.
There was one I was checking out and realised it was next to a passageway and they've only been there since January, so I figure there's "nonsense after dark", especially since Streetview showed some warning sign at the start of the passageway that said "This is a .... area" but I couldn't see what sort, but it had a feral running on the sign, so I figured it's probably rampant moped gangs that use it as a cut through
I don't do passageways or pathways, or backing onto woods...
There's another lovely looker, but it appears they're probably close to a feral over-run area that's become out of control this last summer.... so you don't want that lot running past your house on their way to make mischief.
I'll consult my spreadsheet, see what else I've got under consideration. The list is now 36 properties long, most saying "Nope"
There's some strange stuff out there for sale.
One I quite liked, so I googled the roadname and added the word police - and that gave me all manner of people going to prison for all sorts of nasty offences, burglaries etc... and the mugshots showed the usual drug-addled misfits. That was a nope. Had a garage and a conservatory
When you get to "the posh ones", way out of budget, by god a lot have peculiar furniture tastes

I was sitting in a friend's garden last night ... and she said, all matter of fact, that the reason the bushes we could see had a bald patch is because it's where the school kids climb over with/for the drugs....
As if that were perfectly normal.
Trouble is ... these days, it appears to be!0
