My walking boots died (completely fell apart) at some time between Avatar Dog's demise and New Dog's arrival. So I went out a while ago and bought some new dog walking footwear. I got Goretex trainers. Today was the first time I tried them out in long wet grass. They are totally amazing. They are as comfortable as ordinary trainers, but my feet stay completely dry, as advertised.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
I guess in a culture where almost every family lost at least one child and most families lost several, attitudes to child death were a bit different from now.
I've always been a fan of Salters Science courses.
If any NPs haven't read this book I'd recommend it; it's kind of like a Salters history course written as a thoroughly informative, rambling and enchanting book.
I sucked at history at school but gradually rekindled an interest in and did a part-time degree in it almost two decades ago.

Good result.
I intend to get something like that next time I buy trainers too.
Also need to buy some new boots for the motorbike, mine are many years old now and whilst still very comfy are starting to leak in the rain, but will have to wait until I get somewhere with more choice than the local dealers.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

I've got enough shoes to last me a lifetime
I think I've got enough to stock a shop! Well, maybe not a shop, but certainly a market stall! Some shoes are like works of art! Unusual ones are my weakness, though I do stick to flats these days, as heels are so uncomfortable.
I is a bad Pyxis.
There's also the free ANC weekend, so I'll alternate between garden faffing and looking up random dead people
!
:rotfl: :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Sounds like a fun day! :rotfl:
Mind you, weather's foul today. All day.
So why did I arrange to make two click'n'collect pick-ups?
Dummkopf.
Will have to get my waterproof walking tent out.
All this doggy talk, plus it being dog day today, is making me really miss having a dog.
I have to get the house sorted first, though. And the [STRIKE]garden[/STRIKE] jungle.(I just lurve spiders!)

Morning all. My dogs are away for the weekend with my DD. She and her DH would like a dog now they have a garden but they both work full time so it wouldn't be fair on the pooch, so they borrow my two most weekends now.
Re shoes, having had a knee op, I'd resorted to mainly flats but now have a foot condition which means no flats and shoe inserts. It's on my to do list to sort out my specially fitted out shoe cupboard (posh alert) and get rid of the flats.Spend less now, work less later.0 -

Isn't it strange how the 67F on my thermometer would be "warm" if it were sunny out there - but as it's grim/windy/overcast it's positively "nippy".
One of the orders is chilled food........ ordered because I want to stock the freezer with a favourite dish that I think they are discontinuing, at least from some stores. So if I'm out collecting the one, I might as well collect the other, too, as it's on the way.
Yes, regarding weather, so much depends on the wind strength and direction, as to how warm/cool it feels.
On the local Met site, they give you the temperature and the 'feels like' temperature, which is useful for deciding whether to take a thin or thick layer with you!(I just lurve spiders!)

Trouble is ... if they do discontinue it, one day you'll be eating "the last one" you bought ... so you're just prolonging the agony0 -

Sounds frustrating. Sorry to hear about all that.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tesco used to do a lovely little chicken curry/rice for 95p. It was a korma - I'm not a korma fan as I do like my spice, but it was a really nice little curry at a cheap price... it's what I used to mainly go to Tesco for - since they stopped selling it I've not returned there.
It used to be "A little round robin on Wednesday" - local area has a street market on Wednesdays and a Morrisons and they had a Co-Op (now closed) .... so I'd do: Street market, charity shops, Co-Op, Morries, Tesco, home.
I like every journey to have 2-3 reasons if possible... not just a there/back.
Well, yes, I see your point!
However, there are very few ready meals that I really, really, really enjoy. Most are either totally indifferent, or hmm ok, or yuk, so most I don't buy again.
I like to have something easy in the freezer in case I'm ill and don't feel up to washing and chopping and cooking veg etc., so I prefer the easy things to be things I really like!
Yes, it would be putting off the evil day, but at least it will be enjoyable putting it off!
Sains's have already stopped stocking my favourite beer, the scoundrels,, the Sainsbury locals near me no longer stock my favourite pudding, so if my favourite ready main goes as well...........
