When I first moved to this house, I was surprised at how loud voices in the street sounded, compared to where I lived before.

It seems that sounds reverberate off some buildings more than others. The houses aren't overly close, but there's something about them that gives voices a 'canyon' effect. Something I'm always aware of if outside talking to someone, especially if it's late at night.

Luckily, any noise due to this at night is just people walking past, and they are soon past.

That's exactly what it's like here. And it's very unwise to do anything in the bathroom with the window open, as everyone who happens to be in their back garden in our street or the street whose gardens back onto ours can hear you

Looks like most people here have gone out. There's a local "day out thing" going on with displays and hot food and stalls and stuff.... so it's probably compulsory for couples, groups and families to go there.

.... but they do come back, which is always a shame.

I went once, there's nothing there for me. They don't tell you what time the stuff's going on (e.g. helicopter display), which I'm not interested in anyway. Won't be buying anything from any of the stalls. Won't be buying any of the hot food. Place is bunged so hardly room to move. Won't be going in the pub for a drink... and it's a mile to walk there and a mile to walk back, alone, in this heat ... to shuffle round until bored (I'd give it 20 minutes).

If you can afford the car park and have people to go with and money to spend, then it's possible to have a jolly day out ... but not potless and alone and walking there. If I drove/parked, bought a bit of hot food, quick half in the pub and bought a little knick knack I'd have seen the back of most of £20.... pfft to that.

Perhaps Viva should have got up and cut the grass noisliy at 8am....

I did get up and garden at 8am, however out of respect to my other neighbours, my tools weren't powered. Until 9am that is when I got my hedge trimmer out:D. Late enough that ordinary Sundays not impacted, but early enough to hurt a hangover.

To be fair, I was planning to do this yesterday before mum was ill, and I don't do in day due to skin cancer risk (which by the time I'm out in jeans and a long sleeved top turns into heatstroke risk).
Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

Impact of sleep deprivation. At 2.30am I gave in and shut the window, turning the bedroom into little hot box. Even then I had to put on some soft classical music.

I'm not saying at I am a higher class than them, I'm working class too. However unlike them, I don't:

Show complete disregard for anyone else.
Swear at the top of my voice
    Cackle like a fishwife
Argue with neighbours who dare to challenge them.

Get drunk and sing at the top of my lungs at 2am

Still, as I said, at least I don't have to live next door. Unfortunately this is not the first time either, they have form.

That sounds like the caravan site that's about a quarter of a mile from here.
Fortunately they usually shut up by about ten.
