Damned chavs have been getting progressively louder and stopping everyone round here from sleeping. Can't go and ask them to shut up as not in my street, and I don't know where, it's just noise travelling. I really needed an early night as was up early taking mum to hospital. Sigh.
Still could be worse, I could live in the same street or worse still, next door, shudder.

Impact of sleep deprivation. At 2.30am I gave in and shut the window, turning the bedroom into little hot box. Even then I had to put on some soft classical music.
I'm not saying at I am a higher class than them, I'm working class too. However unlike them, I don't:
Show complete disregard for anyone else.
Swear at the top of my voice
Cackle like a fishwife
Argue with neighbours who dare to challenge them.
Get drunk and sing at the top of my lungs at 2am
Still, as I said, at least I don't have to live next door. Unfortunately this is not the first time either, they have form. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? As houses get smaller and people live closer, suddenly you've 30 people in spitting distance instead of 4.... and they're all getting louder!
I'm on a plot that used to be gardens. In the 60s/70s this plot would've been two houses; In the 80s/90s this plot would've been four houses. Now it's 14, with about 30-35 people and 18 cars.... and that's repeated on the next plot.0 -

Plus a lot of people seem to be getting more and more selfish, or rather, entitiled (to do what they want), I suppose.
And how dare anyone else suggest that they change their ways!
So, higher density population + selfish attitudes = increased anger, increased aggression, increased depression, and, in the long term, increased health problems.(I just lurve spiders!)

I wonder if the density and the noise are linked. If you live so close that you always here other peoples noise then perhaps you feel like there is less harm in making noise yourself. It certainly feels that way to me.
Perhaps Viva should have got up and cut the grass noisliy at 8am....I think....0 -

I wish I had a microphone and voice changer ... to a deep manly voice.... I'd be giving it some "For crying out loud....." (other choices of words are available).
When I first moved to this house, I was surprised at how loud voices in the street sounded, compared to where I lived before.
It seems that sounds reverberate off some buildings more than others. The houses aren't overly close, but there's something about them that gives voices a 'canyon' effect. Something I'm always aware of if outside talking to someone, especially if it's late at night.
Luckily, any noise due to this at night is just people walking past, and they are soon past.(I just lurve spiders!)

Planning rules have changed. Previously, there used to be a maximum density allowed on the site, but now they encourage the maximum possible number of people crammed onto the smallest possible area.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

Except for those who have the opportunity to, and do, move "out into the sticks" - lovely and peaceful here, most of the annoying noise is the sparrows. Not that the noise itself is annoying but that it usually means they are eyeing up whether they can get at my veggiesIt seems that sounds reverberate off some buildings more than others. Had an odd one in my old flat when they were rebuilding the petrol station next door. They had a generator running most of the time and, especially, all night.
If I stood by the windows nearest the site, I couldn't hear a thing, likewise if I stood by the windows furthest away. However, in the middle 1/2 to 2/3 of the flat I could hear a constant thrum-thrum noise, especially at night when there wasn't much other sounds, likewise for my neighbours in the same block. It must have been setting up a resonant frequency vibration in the structure of the building itself.
When I had a word with the foreman, he apologised but said they couldn't turn it off at night because of the risk of the night security bod falling down the holes. He did suggest that, when a particular bit of work was complete he could have the generator moved about 15-20 feet further away to see if that would help - he did and I was able to report back that just that slight change of distance had done the trick and we could no longer hear it at all.
Additionally, there used to be a building the other side with a car park between that and our land. If someone reversed into a parking space backing on to the building I could hear their exhaust thrumming away but if they went in forwards, so the exhaust pipe was pointing straight at the flat, I couldn't hear it at all.
Obviously, the wall of the building was acting as a sound mirror and amplifier.0 -
