We're on holiday at the moment and it hasn't been a great start. I had had to downgrade our caravan due to costs but in the process, there was a little bit of misleading going on and I got something far inferior to what I expected or paid for. On top of that it had an ant infestation, nothing unusual at this time of year or with the current weather but this was something else, this was an ant infestation on steroids!
We were having to do massacres several times a day, they were in our food, crawling all over the cooker and we couldn't even put things down during prep or serving without being swarmed by them, so much had to be thrown out.
Many moans and complaints later we are today restarting our holiday at another site and in an absolutely gorgeous (albeit only 2 bedrooms instead of 3) caravan at no extra cost. It's going to be a little extra hassle as mum and dad are still at the other site but at least they are less than half a mile away instead of miles and miles away and best of all, no ants.
It's been so very stressful though, I cried for 4 hours solid on Tuesday night and even packed my suitcase to come home and Joe who hasn't had a freak out meltdown in over 4 years, had two in the space of 3 days.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

Oh Sue, how horrible! I'm so sorry. I'm so glad you are in a better caravan now even though with fewer bedrooms xx0

Oh Sue! How awful. You really didn't need all that.
Sending hugs, and hoping for the best now you're in your replacement caravan.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
I've been learning a lot about sleep recently. A friend gave me this book, which is really good.
I'm interested in changing the lighting in various parts of my house. I don't want something expensive and complicated that costs an arm and a leg and has five hundred functions that I'll never use. But I am interested to find out if it's possible to have lights that work in the usual way, with a conventional light switch, but will make slightly dimmer and definitely "warmer" light if they are switched on in the evening or during the night, and slightly brighter and definitely "cooler" light if they are switched on during the day. A quick google is giving me plenty of articles explaining why this is desirable, but no actual products. Do any NP know anything about any of this?Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Sue, what a shame!
But thank goodness you were able to salvage the holiday for the better.
Sorry you had to have all that stress, though.
Lydia, I've not heard of 'smart' lighting like that, but it sounds intriguing.

I twice asked a small independent Volvo garage to quote for work on my Volvo. On neither occasion did he bother to reply. Now, he has sent me a round robin email asking me to vote for his daughter in a talent contest. He neglected to mention that this would involve texting at a premium rate.
To make matters worse, he has put all the email addresses in the "To" box, rather than the "BCC" box. The result is he sent my private email address to well over 500 people (and theirs to me).
I am wondering what to do about this? Being of a commercial, rather than a litigious, nature, my immediate thought was that he has placed his entire customer e-mailing list in my hands, and this ought to have some value to his competitors. Can I sell it, legally? No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Wouldn't think you can sell it as you'd have to ask permission of everyone......data protection and all that.
It might be an idea to tell him what he's done though, if only so he doesn't do it again.
To be fair, it was ages before I realised what the Bcc thing was for. (Not that I sent emails to whole lists of people!)(I just lurve spiders!)

I believe that this is a data breach under the General Data Protection Regulation - and you should point this out to him, especially the bit about a legal obligation to notify the Supervisory Authority of the breach within 72 hours.
I'm not sure quite how far the GDPR applies to small companies but that should get him cacking his pants
If I were really nasty, I'd also BCC the email advising him of that to all the other recipients. You never know, there could well be a legal expert amongst themI am wondering what to do about this? Not sure, I don't think that, as a private individual, your are subject to GDPR but whether that still applies if you try to sell the data I'm not sure. However, any company buying it could well be in breach, unless they were to then contact each email address requesting explicit permission to hold and use it.
Probably not worth bothering TBH.0 -

Selling it would breach GDPR. Anyone buying it would breach GDPR by using it without the consent of owners.
Him sending the emails to you, breaches data protection even before GDPR came in and should be notified to some authority - can't remember which one.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. That's a wrong call: he shouldn't have done it.
I'm not trying to suggest we should contact them and say "Oi! Take us off our list and tell everyone you know to do the same!" instead of doing the regulatory authority's work for them and reporting them first. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0
