    You bought a Samsung CLP-415N?
Yup - no doubt it will go on ebay once the inks run out
    I think....

Nope, inkjet are much simpler to make. Still, I would not want to have to make one for £20 or so. They are clearly sold at or below cost in the hope of selling overpriced cartridges....

    Yes, that's the business model.

I know that, for example, Morgan Computers will let you have an £80 inkjet for free, if you buy £80 worth of ink cartridges.

That's what they did in London for the same reason. Some of the main roads still don't have them put back up.

One of my relatives was involved in one of the first parachute drop behind enemy lines in WW2 (SAS). The sleeves of his jacket were made of silk and had maps of where they were going sewn into them. Whether or not they had street names on I don't know, but he was captured and spent the rest of the war in a POW camp.

If I may be forgiven for mentioning house prices on the NPT...
I got a bit of a shock today. I bought my house for £365k in Jan 2011. Next door (smaller than mine because unextended, so one fewer reception room, no utility, no ensuite) sold for £310k in early 2012. They're in the process of moving again (hoping to exchange within a week or two) and today I asked them what price they'd agreed with their buyers. They said £493k! Mine will be worth quite a lot more because of bigger. Not that that means anything to me - I've no intention of selling. Instead, it fills me with dread - how are my kids ever going to be able to buy houses at this rate???

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

    There are three routes:
    - sell lots of drugs
    - gamble/win the lottery
    - marry VERY well.

    Buy them somewhere cheaper ;)

For example I bought mine, a decent sided 3-bed semi with gardens in a nice rural area just outside the Lake District National Park (now World Heritage Site) last year for £115K.

The only snag is that there isn't much work in the area - BAE 25 miles away at Barrow, Sellafield 15 or so miles away, the prison not far away, larger retail again in Barrow, smaller retail more locally, tourism (largely seasonal) and farming (also seasonal). All except the first three aren't likely to be high wages.
That wasn't a problem for me because I retired to move up here but it would be rather more tricky for youngsters starting out, which explains the relatively low house prices.

Look inside the National Park and it's often unclear whether the long number on the advert/board is actually the price or the agent's phone number :rotfl:

So how do people find where to go?

Ok, now everyone probably has built-in satnav, but what happened before that?

I've never had/seen/used a sat nav. I use things called maps, or "leave it to luck".

If I am going somewhere I look at the map and remember the "shape of the journey" to get there :)

    :)

    Plus:
    - Get a good job? :D
    - Move to a cheaper part of the country?

Or if the worst comes to the worst, they'd get yours when you pop your clogs! :D

Seriously, though, I did once consider moving to Yorkshire so that I could get on the housing ladder. Ok, I had a job that could have relocated me.
In the end I chickened out, though, and managed to scrape a toehold onto the London suburban ladder by buying a tiny place that was unmodernised. Had to live without central heating and with metal windows and crap decor and no decent appliances for ages.

In the end, after a few years, I moved right away from London, as it was the only way I could afford a half-decent place, but I realise that not everyone can do that.

However, I do appreciate that the differential between Home Counties prices and salaries is a lot greater now. :(

(Ps. I'm still in that half-decent place I moved to! :D)

Re printers/ink. I don't have a printer. Well, I have a printer that is a scanner, so it's in the cupboard "just in case" I ever need to scan things - although I don't expect to need to.

I don't have one because I have a deep fear of buying the wrong one.

I am not entirely sure if I want ink jet or laser - and would need to read up to find out as I do plan on using a printer, when I get one, to do various forms of image transfer (onto materials), so would need to double check which one is most commonly used for what I might have a whim to try it on...

I rarely used to print anything, due to the cost of ink - and only ever used it in black, for fear of the cost of printing.

I've absolutely no idea where I'd have to go to get anything printed out - a print shop - never looked for one here, but, also, have never noticed one in the vicinity.

If I had a printer right now and printed out what I thought I'd want/like it'd probably just end up at 2-3 sheets/week in the main. Max.

I am not sure how you manage without a printer, PN. If you would only use it occasionally, an inkjet will clog up, so you need a laser. Perhaps you can find an old one on freecycle? Perhaps an old office machine that's been well used and where the paper pickups are a bit dodgy? That might suit if the price is right, and toner is often dead cheap for those.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
