    Thanks Pyxis.

There are so many poignant days in the first year in particular.
Their birthday, your birthday, Father's Day, Christmas, plus any other days that hold a particular significance for the person in question, and the anniversary of the day they died.

    The first year is pants.

Today is the first father's day since my dad died. We never used to buy much, but he did like a big bar of Dairy Milk or Fruit and Nut. He always had a glint in his eye, especially if he had an opportunity to stick it to the man (ideally of the tax variety). Missing him a lot today.

Hope you got through it all right. Sending thoughts and hugs and prayers.

Yes, absolutely, Pyxis. A lot of my widow friends find Father's Day hard, trying to be there for their kids while missing their husbands. I've just come from a secret FB group for widows where there have been posts about it.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I agree the first year is worst because of the sadness at missing out on the day.

My in-laws love moonpig cards because they are amazed that they can receive a card with their photo on it. It definitely takes more effort than buying/posting a card from a shop.

For those that like to order online, another useful card site for printed cards is thortful. Up to the minute wording with designs by upcoming artists/ doodlers/ designers.

I think Father's Day was promoted (as in revived after an earlier version died out) by a woman in Washington state who heard about Mother's Day and had been brought up by a widowered father and felt he needed honouring as well.

I was away, I'm back. I'd have stories except they're utterly unique and would be instant identifiers :)

Never really "did" Father's Day as it didn't used to exist and dad wasn't really interested in any "days". Indeed, for their Golden Wedding they did absolutely nothing different at all .. it was just a day ... when they got a card from each of us. And that was it.

They were never big on any "celebrations" or anniversaries etc.

All this "awareness/watching/anticipation/pacing about/checking" must be doping terrible things to your arteries. Maybe, you could find somewhere you like going to and simply bail out a lot sooner?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Do you want to "catch" them in your garden retrieving a ball, or not know it was there?
