LNE got chickenpox, very badly, at the age of 27, starting the day Diana died. He felt too ill to read, but could cope with watching TV, but most of the time there was nothing on any of the channels except the same dozen clips of her, over and over again, with various people talking about her. He got very bored too.
I had it when I was about 19. So 1974. I remember feeling pretty grotty with it, and watching daytime TV such as it was.
There was something on called "The Cedar Tree" I remember.
I was bored as well.0 -
My dad was a radio and TV engineer after the war.
He said he built a TV using a war surplus radar screen he picked up from somewhere. He said something about it in the pub, and a bloke asked if he could see it, and promptly offered to buy it off him.
Green and white picture.
How I know about the converter for early sets for ITV, is that he was building the converters and selling them. I haven't got the electronics, but I have the box from one somewhere.
As far as I can remember we nearly always rented a set at home though. They were pretty unreliable back then.
I like a nice big telly. i think the one we've got is a 44" plasma. That'll do for the moment.
Sorry for quoting PN. Thanks GDB22220 -

I have a 16 year old 42in Sony plasma. For the small amount of time actually spent watching TV I don’t need anything newer.
Big house but relatively small lounge, I wouldn’t actually want to go for anything bigger.
I know nothing about the technology behind anything, just that it works when I turn everything on💙💛 💔0 -
I'm not quite sure why PN doesn't want her post quoted, as I'd be proud of a relative who could build a TV. Nevertheless, Jackmydad, you might want to revise your post.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

I'm not quite sure why ....
Identification when I'm moaning....
If I can be identified, somebody doing that might see one of my posts where I'm whinging about them - and they can tell it's them,... and then they'll get huffy and shirty with me ....
You never know who you know has an account here.... and when they might randomly read something and think "I know who that is ...." and then read something they didn't wish to see....
Imagine, say, if I were identifiable - and if the parents of the ferals spotted their b4st4rds being mentioned
I went out earlier .... dreaded coming home .... but it's all quiet on the western front! Having said that, it could've been mayhem for 1½ hours until 5 minutes before I came home.0 -
I'm complete shopping fail .... I just did a 16 mile round trip as it took in two shops that sold vacuum bags.
I'd been to the local shop and they didn't have the ones on the website, but the store 8 miles away seems to be better stocked (or it could be my imagination) ... so I thought I'd go there and just "pick up a bag of what I want"....
Then, across the road, is a big green supermarket that sells the vacuum bags that I want to buy ... but I didn't spot "the small print" which is that they are only available as an "add on" item if you spend over £15 and have a home delivery....
So, from the two shops, I got zero joy.

I suspect that I recognise one poster here from another forum, but no proof, and no way of being sure.
I'm fairly good at recognising people's style as well, so I usually spot the AEs here etc.
Nobody would guess who I am!
(Now excuse me, but I've just got to go and clean m'lady's six wheel pink Rolls Royce.)

I tend not to post anything that would upset anyone if they came across it and recognised themselves being discussed.
I reckon it's okay to discuss the weather and, at a pinch, the size of your TV. There's a sort of reverse snobbery in having a small TV. It implies that you hardly ever watch it, because your time is so taken up with very, very important matters, rather than just that you're a skinflint or simply have extremely good eyesight. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
