What an appalling situation for you, PN. You really have made a wise decision. Are you too young to go to a over 55s complex? No roofers in those!
Open plan is hell. As are shared drives. Both are fine I everyone is reasonable but there's always one, or more, who think the rules don't apply to them. I speak from bitter experience!
Re the declutter...ask yourself, why am I keeping this item? Charity shops are very welcoming places as is eBay if YCBA .
Da,n autocorrect... not roofers, doofers!0 -
Horrible for you PN, I know what it feels like as the next door neighbour children made our lives hell for a while and are the reason why even though I have this massive garden, I go out there once or twice a year and only if I really really have to.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

...made our lives hell ....
Those who haven't experienced it can't imagine what it's like. Because it's not a day, or a few days, but never-ending, every day - and, as I'm sure you discovered, they find new things to do that are "wrong" as time progresses.... and then you're living not just with when they're doing it, but the fear of them starting at any moment, and doing who knows what, for how long ... every day, the "anticipation" of trouble is as bad as it occurring.
And you're "alone" as others/neighbours are out, don't see the problem, aren't affected, so don't "pitch in" on your behalf, but leave you to deal with it as it's "your problem".... and some are pleased it's not them.0 -
The point about the school district is an interesting one. We are not in a good school district here but the houses are nice and well kept, if a little on the small side.
Consequently most of those who live here are empty nesters. They do have their grandchildren come to stay, but they keep them in line with minimal disruption.

I think, too, there's a difference between living in a "dated/settled road" and moving into new builds where nobody ever knows anybody, with a smattering of short term ASTs drifting in and out too. All the ferals have, in fact, been short-term rentals. People who never saw the deeds etc, and people who just think the car parking area is some "cul de sac", which some people see as "ooh look, somewhere safe for the kids to doss about in".
I've got some random place names in my head of "where next", but I'm a bit stuck on "where next" as it'd hang on availability and price achieved, which can only be known at the moment of decision-making.0 -

(Bit about NHBC deleted). If I were being auctioned, I'm hoping I'd still qualify for 'general tat', rather than antiques.(I just lurve spiders!)

An example of how noise, for me, depends on the "frequency" of the sound... last week a man arrived in a worker's truck. He arrived, he parked, he removed a heavy lawn mower from the back of his truck and wheeled it, 60'/20m, past my rear gate and into the (empty) neighbour's garden. He then got a heavy duty petrol strimmer out. He mowed the lawn with his heavy duty petrol mower and strimmed all the edges with his heavy duty strimmer. I had the window open .... and I heard nothing whatsoever. Didn't know he was there.
I only spotted it as I was upstairs and looked out of the window - then 15 minutes later saw him trundling it all back across the tarmac and onto the back of his truck.
Not a peep did I hear, even with the window open.
Later on the same day, with the window closed, I heard a single child, 100'/35m away kick one football once .... and I was immediately alerted to the fact "ferals out ... and at it again".
Additionally, last year, with a whole new development going up and all the sounds of construction (demolition, flattening, removal, digging foundations/services, building, scaffolding, banging) - and, most of the time, I wasn't aware of it unless I stepped right outside. Even though they were often just 3-4m from me.0 -
I've managed to open a tiny tube of superglue, use it .... and, when "testing" if it's dry, getting a smear of it on a finger.... wonder how many days before that rubs off.0

It's probably a combination of the frequency, the type of sound and your, acquired is possibly the right term, sensitivity to it.
Lawnmower starts and you subconsciously think "Oh, haven't heard that sound before, but it doesn't sound threatening so no worries"
Doofer starts and you both consciously and subconsciously think "Oh God, it's them again"0 -

Does it rub off, or does it stay until those skin cells drop off? Either way, about three days in my experience of regularly getting covered in the stuff. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0
