NPs are probably well aware, but I only just found out that Mr M Lewis is Jewish. Had no idea.... but then, why would I unless the information fell into my lap, which it did.

And I'd have not noted/cared, except I know a lot of NPs are of that faith, so thought I'd mention it .... even though they probably already knew 10 years.

I knew because a friend's parents' friends went to his wedding. His wife is also Jewish.

He was on Radio 4 last night talking about losing his mother at the age of 12 and it came up a couple of times in what he was saying.

I was very taken with the news in today's paper that police have seized 10,000 fake Harry Potter wands.

Where can I get a real one? And a flying broom for beginners?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

    Fake is an odd thing.
While I appreciate that something worth £10,000 being sold for £4,000 as real is a con and fraud .... if I'm down the market and see them flogging brand new watches saying "Ralex" on them for £2 and I buy one .... is that fake?

For many, they know something's not real and just want "the look" for a snip.... and would never, ever, in their wildest dreams, ever be a customer of "the real company who sell the expensive ones".

The biggest problem there though is that it devalues the brand for the rights holders.

Interestingly I've seen a lot of products marketed as 'designer inspired' products popping up on Facebook feeds. I'm also sure that rights holders wouldn't want their brands to be used in this way although I'm not sure of a case that's been taken through the courts yet for it.

In many cases, a royalty has to be agreed and paid for use of brand rights for it to be legal. If it helps, in my industry we pay 8.5% of wholesale value in most circumstances for such rights. Over the course of a year that can add up to significant amounts of money if significant numbers sell.

I was learning today about prisoners in jail in Lousiana being taught Mandarin. The port of New Orleans had impounded masses of counterfeit goods (mostly made in China) and had offered the owners of the real brands the option of them being (a) destroyed or (b) distributed to people in disaster zones, and the state government offered prisoners time off their sentences if they sorted the goods for distribution to the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
