Yes, what I cooked/ate was very edible
I've just whipped up a "layered salad" ... of random leftovers and things that needed using up.
I had half a midget gem lettuce, and I used a tomato ... and then cooked up tiny seashell pasta and grated cheese
Then the bowl was full ... I'd also boiled an egg, but there's no room for it
I went earlier to Sainsbobs ... and their £3.40 pizzas are on special offer at £2, so I got one of those.... but that's probably not going to be eaten today.0 -

Pastures, did you say that when your extension is done, then you'd have room for a freezer? If that's the case, then, when you find some meals you like, you can stock up with them, ready for a "I really want a takeaway day".
Quite a lot of those meals can be cooked from frozen too!(I just lurve spiders!)

I haven't found a Chinese that I like locally.
It's weird isn't it?
We went through loads of different ones before we found one we liked about 8 years ago and nowadays only order from there, and usually the same two or three dishes as well.
Every time we try somewhere different, if we're away in a different town or something, it's just not any good...
I don't have nearly the same fussiness about any other takeaway food but Chinese - will happily try different places for Indian, pizza, fish and chips, etc...“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

Yes.It's got so that I've pretty much given up, now.
And Indian as well.
There are very few pizzas I really like. Most are just boring. One that is yummy is Waitrose's roasted vegetable wood-fired sourdough pizza. That's tasty.
Even fish and chips....... despite having four within walking distance of me, I chose to drive further away, past another two, because I really like this particular chippy. Then, they must have started to use a different oil or something, because they became very mediocre, so I stopped going.
So much restaurant food is mediocre, too.
The big chains are the worst. There is absolutely nothing on a Harvester-type menu, for example, that I fancy, and when forced to have something, it's horrible... overcooked usually.
I went to a Wagamama the other day, with some friends, as they wanted to, but just didn't fancy any of it, so ended up just having a fruit smoothie. Their food did look very nice, though, but I guess I just wasn't very hungry.
I find that the bigger the menu a place has, the worse the food is. A big menu means that the food is really all pre-cooked/bought in and just heated up, basically. Even chips are bought in par-boiled and adulterated.
A small menu, with just a few tasty dishes cooked properly on the premises, is what I'd look for.
One place I used to go to a lot, a vegetarian place, was very good, and reasonable. They were there for years and years and years, and I was on first-name terms with them, then they retired and sold the business, which gradually got turned into an oriental restaurant, so that was that. The only dedicated veggie place in the area had become yet another Chinese fusion place. Grrrrr.
Still, I suppose it's saving me money!(I just lurve spiders!)

If you grate the egg it will mix in and won't take up room!

I'd not want a 2nd freezer; you just end up with a whole load of stuff you can put off eating because you're not running out of room:)0 -

I thought that the freezer you have is very small, so you can't get much in?
It's just that when things are on special offer, and you know you like them, then you can stock up cheaply!(I just lurve spiders!)

I don't really "like" much to be honest... not enough to consider changing the freezer.
Most food is "meh" ... it's just food.
It's not how food used to be is it...
As for stocking up, I'd then not fancy it again for 2-3 years. I like to have all sorts of bits and pieces really; when I have "stocked up" I've regretted it. e.g.two 500gram bags of Quorn mince...thought I'd NEVER see the back of that!
I don't consume enough volume for "stocked up" to ever deplete.0 -
Pyxis I've just noticed you've changed your avatar again! I don't know how you've got the patience. Is that a real blackbird or a pottery one?
I only have an avatar at all because dear PasturesNew went into her garden and photographed some ivy leaves, and sent me the link to the pic! (Thanks again PN)
Oh and Pyxis I've just seen your post in which you mentioned the pasta. I tried that a couple of years ago when on a short break in Florence (there was chilli in it as well as garlic) and I was astonished that something so simple could be so utterly delicious. i was really annoyed that I couldn't eat more than half of it
I intended to make it for us when we got back home, but there seem to be umpteen different recipes considering there are so few ingredients and I didn't know which would be best, so I've still never made it0 -

It's a real one, in a flowerpot. I didn't take the photo. Late last year, I was looking for seasonal blackbird photos on the net, that I could use for seasonal avatars. This is my high summer avatar. The Spring one with the chick will be back next year!
I use a Resizr (sic) App to get them the right size to be accepted as an avatar, and keep them in my photos album on my iPad, then it's very easy to upload them onto here via the User CP change avatar section. Before I found the Resizr App it was a nightmare. Also, there doesn't seem to be the same problem uploading avatars onto here as there was earlier in the year.(I just lurve spiders!)
