To try to explain, with a random photo plucked from the Internet.

Imagine if you owned the end house on the right, including all the land in shadow - and all the path/grass etc was "your garden" completely; freehold in the deeds. And then, imagine if you found that kids were skating/scootering along in front of your front window, up the side of your house and down your paths, then (as there's no through way/way out) for them to turn round and go back the other way ... because once they're "on your land", the only way out is back in front of the other houses again.

And imagine if that were to happen for hours, daily, often, randomly but you never knew when .... or how many.

Where the path becomes wholly your property, could you put up a little picket fence and gate, as a demarcation?
With your house number on the gate?

There are landscaping restrictions - and I do plan to do something low level, discrete, without any gate... but the ability to "balance a stick" between the two sides if it ever did get ignored. I also plan to paint the first two paving slabs on the path with my house number .... but all of that requires time/effort/cost to acquire all the bits and bobs and then good weather to go out there and do it properly.

It also doesn't stop the "similar nonsense" that happens out in the parking areas, where you can't put up barriers or fences at all as it's "turning space"

I hate it when that happens. Here's the full listing.

I could just go and knock on the kids' parents door and say my fags/lighter have gone missing from my smoking spot ..... so if they could keep an eye out in case their kids have got my fags/lighter... because all I know is "a neighbour saw kids on scooters in my garden, but couldn't tell me where they're from...."

I've had a think about that, Pastures, and my feeling is that that would be worse than merely pointing out that the pathway is private.

To say things have gone missing is implying that their children are thieves, and I don't think that would go down too well, or further future good relations.

I would think it might be better to just say you've noticed the children on the path, and would like to point out, because it isn't obvious to a child, that the path is private.
It might be also worth pointing out that you aren't allowed to put a fence up due to the covenants, otherwise you would.

It might also be worth mentioning that you suffer from anxiety, and hearing people on your path makes you worse, or something like that.

Very often, when things are explained like that, people take it on board, but implying that their children might have taken something, especially when nothing did actually go missing, might cause some bad-feeling.

They are young children, and might genuinely not have realised it was private, but might just have been exploring their new environment.

    Something like that, anyway?

You see, this is why I try to never speak to anybody .... what I mean is mis-translated by the recipient to be something entirely different ...

I'd have thought they'd be petrified their kids were smoking and/or had access to a lighter and could burn their house down in the night, so would make sure they knew where their kids were/what they were doing ... and stopped them being places they shouldn't be and doing things they shouldn't be.

I just don't think like others - which is why I struggle to "have a word" or "a quiet word" with anybody, such as neighbours .... and especially, it seems, when kids are to be mentioned.

So I have to suck it up .... I might just stick with a sign on the gate "SANTA is dead" "Santa is fake, he never existed" that can only be seen if you're where you shouldn't be :)

An electric one might be more effective - ramping up the voltage each time they ignore it :rotfl:

If you were to just say the other things I mentioned, that would be ok. :)

But inside my head there's a voice screaming: I hate you, I hate your feral brats, keep your feral brats and their annoying toys away from me, my house and anywhere close to where I can see/hear them EVER! Nasty, dirty, feral brats crawling all over the place..... I don't ... farquin.... NEED it. Do you hear?? *tap them on the forehead*

    :)

They bring on an autistic meltdown ... in reality.
