PasturesNew wrote: »The whole lot is "not a public space, not a shared space, not leasehold spaces with a management company". If you want to visit me you walk along the path, enjoying your RoW to walk along that path to reach my house (crossing the freehold land of 3 neighbours as you step along it) .... and for the last 30' you are wholly on "my land with no RoW". The RoW along the path is not marked (I do plan to do something at some point, but haven't seen anything appropriate that'll do the job yet) ... I need a pot either side, each of which has my house number on it .... and a nifty discrete "private" sign just for good measure.
Kids playing is "... not allowed under the deeds/covenants/restrictions ...." I didn't MAKE the rules, but I did buy based on them existing as it's "my land/nobody can tell me different" and "it's clear/no nonsense"... but when you're right you can often end up looking like the one in the wrong... just for pointing it out.
PN, in view of how much stress this is causing you, I think you need to prioritise dealing with this over almost anything else you might be doing with your time. You might try any or all of the following:
* Get a sign made to go at the beginning of the path saying "Private - right of way applies to path only".
* Put up a 15" fence (or whatever the maximum allowed is) around your property. If the children break it, charge the parents for the repair. Put up cameras if you have to.
* Put markers at the beginning of your property, together with a sign saying "Private - no right of way beyond this point".
* You complain that renters don't know what's on the deeds, so let them know - make copies that show what's what with a heading saying "Welcome to XXX Road - Please note the information in these deeds" and post a copy through the letterbox of any house that's newly occupied.
* Get hold of some kind of ASD advocate who can go round to the houses where these children live, show the deeds and explain that you have hyperacusis and so bought here specifically because the rules promised you freedom from the kind of noise that causes you distress.
*Upgrade the sound-proofing of your property so that you can no longer hear what goes on outside.
*Put up a notice in the car parking area saying "Turning space for cars. No ball games, skates or scooters."
Otherwise, you will continue to suffer. Yes, I know there are rules in the deeds. But children don't read deeds. They play where it looks as though there's a space to play, unless and until someone tells them otherwise. This doesn't mean that they are "feral", just that they are children. If you want them to be aware that they must stay away from your property, then it is your responsibility to communicate that, whether by getting someone to talk to the parents, or putting up a fence or some signs or whatever.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

Imagine if you owned the end house on the right, including all the land in shadow - and all the path/grass etc was "your garden" completely; freehold in the deeds. And then, imagine if you found that kids were skating/scootering along in front of your front window, up the side of your house and down your paths, then (as there's no through way/way out) for them to turn round and go back the other way ... because once they're "on your land", the only way out is back in front of the other houses again.
And imagine if that were to happen for hours, daily, often, randomly but you never knew when .... or how many.

We're here in not-so-sunny Sheringham now. The house is on a street corner. There's no fence, just the front lawn and the pavement going round it. People going round the corner do sometimes take a shortcut across the lawn, but they don't seem to be doing any damage to the grass.
I was slightly surprised they were doing this, as it's obviously our front garden, but I haven't put up any signs or bothered to fence it off. I wouldn't say that I'm at all the easiest person to get on with or at all relaxed, but this particular behaviour doesn't seem to upset me for some reason. No reliance should be placed on the above! Bummer!
If the deeds don't say that you can't then what the hell, go for it :rotfl:0 -
PN, I'd be tempted to put a fence at the side in line with the front wall of your house. So it may be against the deeds but who is going to take action against you. That would make clear to all that they can't go round the side and there is no point going across the front path as there is nowhere that the path leads to.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. .... put a fence ...
I've been mentally working out how to make nifty planters, that I can then use as "posts" for some short strips of £land edging.... and then what to fill those with ...and get all the bits and pieces .... and find myself "in the mood" for it, so to speak. I could make square planters using some of that "stick hedging on a roll" stuff and cut it down and wrap it round something cubed .... so I'd need to make the cubed bit first.... unless I just cut down and strap together four plastic 2litre drinks bottles, but I'd still need to square the corners off and then fill it with something ... maybe some displaced earth if I sink them down 6" or so for some stability. I need a session outside fiddling around with stuff to make something without a budget or tools or skills or enthusiasm.
If I had £50-60 to throw at the project I could just buy planters... buy compost ... fill them with some sort of plant ... get some door numbers ... and a length of short fencing ... and a hammer and some glue ... and be done.0 -
From £8.98 including postage.
On a serious note, if you're thinking about digging anyway and laying plants etc, it may be worth using either raised bedding (can be found cheap, try Facebook) or trying to find some cheap edging rolls, which would mark it out as your property.
This company (not a recommendation) is the first that looks ok on Google at first glance, with the bamboo edging looking reasonably like a low fence again marking it out as your property whilst giving you the flexibility that you probably want.💙💛 💔0 -

Well, it depends how much you think peace and quiet is worth. If not having kids rampaging into your garden is only worth £5 to you, then by all means wait (and put up with it) until you've got the time to bodge something cheap together. However, from what you post on here, decreasing kid-annoyance seems to be something that you desire above anything else, so I would have thought it would be worth more than that.
I'm like GDB myself. In fact, not only do I not mind about next door's children, I've specifically told the parents they're welcome to send them through the gate or over the fence to use our trampoline, if the parents will take full responsibility for them while they're on it. But I do understand that you feel differently, and that nobody who doesn't suffer from hyperacusis can really understand what it's like for you.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? I just googled hyperacusis and it sounds really difficult to live with. Related to tinnitus.
Some musicians who suffer from it wear ear plugs or something over the ears, according to Wikipedia. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0
