It was very cold here yesterday, the wind was bitter. So sorry to hear of your or any Hamish, I hope that the aches and pains subside quickly.
Going back to the subject of avocados, my mum refuses to eat them on the grounds that they don't taste like pears. Her rationale is that in her day they were called avocado pears, therefore they should. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I have a five year old nephew. He has a new girlfriend. He announced to the family that he misses her when she is not around, and that "she makes my heart happy". Has anyone been watching 'The secret life of five-year-olds'? They do say some very sweet (and insightful) things at that age!(I just lurve spiders!)

Oh yes, avidly! Thought it was very poignant this week when the little girl talked about her parents splitting up.Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? It was daft really, because to the uninitiated at the time, that did indicate they should be eaten as fruit.
I remember when a flatmate's sister came to stay, and she wanted to do us a meal, and the starter was avocado 'pear'. She was a little bit 'special needs' and didn't realise how they should be served, so gave them to us halved and de-stoned, but laced with sugar.
Well, we did manage to down them,, so as not to upset her, but someone did point out that there was a more usual way of serving them. She said it was because they were called pears, but didn't think they were very sweet, hence the sugar.

I just roared when they were dressing up for weddings, and one little girl was telling a boy he was the 'broom'. :rotfl:
He knew that wasn't right, but didn't know the correct word, and she was insisting he was the broom, so there was an element of doubt in his head!

Rach Have you got the dreaded lurgy?
I'm just getting over it. 10 days, so far.
Plus, I'm nowhere near being a millennial, but I eat avocados too! I ate two yesterday, and have two ripening on my windowsill as we speak.
Why are avocados a millennial thing? They've been around for yonks. I think I first came across them in the early-ish 70s. You know, when you had to eat them filled with prawn cocktail. Urgh.
These days I just eat them. Naked. The avocados, that is, not me.
Yeah it’s just this stupid cold thing, I’m usually quite active so when I can’t do stuff it’s just annoying. Unfortunately my nan is in hospital right now but I cant visit her until I’m better in case she gets it. She’s gone in with a myriad of problems like heart failure, swelling, chest infection... she’s been in a week and now they think she’s picked up C. DifficileWhat is with hospitals making you sicker than you were when you went in?!
And yeah I think the whole avocado/millennial thing came about because they were cool in the 70s so naturally we like anything retro... and then an Australian property tycoon made the grand statement that if only us silly young people would stop buying avocado on toast, we could all afford 4 bedroom houses next week. Silly silly young people.
Naked avocado eating could be a thing. Especially if we stop buying clothes to afford a house?Another chalet girl snowboarder...'spect dude
Yez! Hi. Hoping this year I don’t break anything again....0 -
Ouch, hope you are ok Hamish.
.
Yes, I'm fine thanks.
The council are generally pretty good up here with salting the roads, as it's cold/snowy quite regularly, but it was like an ice rink last night.
Spoke to the garage this morning and they said they've had a few cars in with similar problems, they think the snow turned to rain for a while yesterday afternoon and washed the road salt/grit away, and then promptly froze on the ground last night.

I didn't think avocados were expensive, though?
They used to be, back in retro times,, but they aren't particularly now, and I would have thought they'd be dirt cheap in Oz.
Now I want avocado on toast, but my avocados aren't ripe and I don't have any bread.:(HAMISH_MCTAVISH wrote: »Yes, I'm fine thanks.

Ah well....
That must have been so scary.
I've only skidded once. Well, it wasn't really a skid, more that the brakes didn't grip; I was approaching a minor crossroads in the side streets very, very slowly, but couldn't stop at the give-way markings and slid right into the centre of the crossroads.
Luckily luckily luckily there was nothing coming from any direction, but it scared the life out of me.
So I really feel for you.(I just lurve spiders!)

I had a scary one once, we had all left work and to get home there was a small hill that needed to be driven down. All of us were being very careful because of the conditions but even so, we all ended up doing a car ballet down the hill.
Amazingly, no one hit anyone or anything else despite cars doing sideways (and sometimes backward) dances down the hill but suffice to say I avoid that hill when the weather turns wintry. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
