Soooo I forgot to subscribe to the thread when I replied and now I just look rude. Sorry.

Hi! Yes good advice. I do like mushrooms!

Unfortunately the hospital called me with an appointment for surgery... 1 week after I fly =/ Which is super annoying. So 5 months without access to a dentist (well, they have dentists in France obvs but they charge a fortune) so I just have to hope no more infections!

Ha! Detectives indeed. So yes you are mostly correct - I'm actually going to France for 5 months until April. Doing another snowboard season. I'm a graphic designer so I have the luxury of being able to pick up contracts and freelance work - while I'm out there I'll be working hosting in a chalet though.

Aside from that, I lived in London for 7 years until moving back to Bedfordshire last year, to live with my parents to save money for a house deposit, and be one of those millennials that everyone complains about who eats avocados and such. Saving is going well* considering I keep ditching my career to go snowboarding ha. Surprisingly you spend a very very small amount when all you do is clean and snowboard and drink the occasional half empty bottle of chalet wine. I recommend to all.

*when I say going well, I obviously need a deposit of several [STRIKE]thousand[/STRIKE] million pounds, because South East/London and I am single. Sooo. Quite well. Ish.

Also thanks for your GA advice. Your early ones sound awful!

You can call me what you like - perhaps Rach, or RLW is easiest. I actually hadn't really thought it through because on some browsers it cuts my username off as 'rachlikeswi...' and there's something else that starts with 'wi' that is rude that definitely came into my head  Awks.

How is everyone today? I have a cold so couldn't go to yoga, now trying to pysch myself up to cook dinner. Woe.
Another chalet girl snowboarder...'spect dude :)

I suppose that having you as guests might give her a focus, and keep her busy; that might be what she wants.

It would be when you leave that it hits. :(

Well, I asked her again today, by text, and suggested that if she would really prefer not to have to put us up we wouldn't be at all offended and she could tell me by text, but she replied "Don't be ridiculous, the beds are already made!" so I think she's quite glad we're going. I hope so, anyway :) I hope having us there might encourage her to start eating properly again, as she has lost her appetite atm (not surprisingly).

Avocado with prawns is still a hit with me. But so is guacamole.

Well, the relatives can have a get-together thing if they want, can't stop that, just not with the deceased there, iyswim.

There was a similar discussion on a thread about organ donation, and my feeling is that what an individual wants done with their body, be it for organ donation, for cremation/burial/funeral, or for disposal of their assets (i.e. Wills) should be up to them (within confines of law, obviously).

    That's just me, though. :)

Ivy, if you'd rather this wasn't discussed, please say, and I'll delete. :A

It's absolutely fine, honestly :) It is interesting the different things people want to happen. I feel a bit bad because I had always assumed I'd have whatever funeral those left behind would find least upsetting, but when I really thought about it (because I was organising a funeral plan) I realised I wanted things done in a certain way, and that it was important to me because of my religious beliefs. So my body will be taken to the church to stay there overnight, then there will be a service in church the next day, then a cremation. I apologised to my children (and Mr ivyleaf, in case I predecease him) that it will be longer than just a service at the crem. I did start asking them how they'd feel about my being buried, but only got as far as DD1, who didn't like the idea of an actual grave but said she'd want to carry out my wishes - and then I found out how much it would cost to be buried around here, so forgot the idea. You can't buy a burial plot here any more anyway, only lease one!
I'm Catholic, and the Pope has now said ashes should be either buried or stored "in a sacred space", but I really don't think there will be enough money for that!

ETA Finally caught up. Hello Rach :hello: Good to see you back with us. Your winters sound great!

My parents only ever bought one house. Unless an as yet hypothetical second husband complicates matters, I am shaping up to follow their example of buying just one house, and then living in it until I die or move to a sheltered flat or a home or something. Although they were 33 and 30 when they bought theirs, and I didn't buy mine until I was 41.

Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Hello Rach, nice to see you back again.

Now where was I today? Well, eldest son decided that as he had a day off, he would take me out for lunch and a shopping trip. At this rate, I could get quite used to being taken out for meals, Joe last week and James this week (oh and mum and dad on Tuesday!).

James also treated me to my absolute favourite...a box of Yorkshire tea.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

    I'm not keen on avocado....

My parents only bought one house too. They did think about down sizing to a bungalow when dad had his strokes but they decided they were all too small for the budget and they didn't fancy adding any extra to the property pot from their savings.

Well at least that was what dad convinced mum, he never wanted to do it in the first place, he likes his house.

Mum was 27 (by about 3 weeks) and dad 28 (almost 29) when they purchased.

  • Do watch out for the weather Nice Peeps as it's treacherous out there in some parts of the country and forecast to be more so early in the morning, managed to prang a car tonight for the first time in donkey's years, black ice, sideswiped a kerb, and then it all went Pete Tong.

Bit sore, car will need some new bits, but not too bad an outcome all things considered.

Ouch, hope you are ok Hamish.

We've had a tiny bit of snow here, not enough to lay but it is absolutely blooming freezing out there. Joe was less than impressed with a fair bit of snow where he was, he hates snow.

No snow here, thank goodness, and no frost either, this morning (there was some yesterday).
No subzero temps forecast over the next few days either. Phew.
Supposed to be doing an outdoor AmDram thing tomorrow, so quite pleased about the temps, given the state my lungs have been in!
