Isn't it funny that we have such different ideas! I think the funeral is for the benefit of the survivors, as the deceased isn't there in any meaningful sense.
Well, the relatives can have a get-together thing if they want, can't stop that, just not with the deceased there, iyswim.
There was a similar discussion on a thread about organ donation, and my feeling is that what an individual wants done with their body, be it for organ donation, for cremation/burial/funeral, or for disposal of their assets (i.e. Wills) should be up to them (within confines of law, obviously).
That's just me, though.

I find it comforting to think that the deceased is up above at least aware that a crowd of loved ones have gathered to remember them.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
