Lets play a game: How many layers of clothes am I going to have to wear to keep my luggage under the 10kg limit?

Hehe, that reminds me of the photographer's trick to avoid having to put expensive, fragile stuff in the hold luggage - wear a "photography vest" (a sleeveless jacket with loooooooads of pockets), stuff as much of the gear into the pockets as possible and carry the normal backpack or whatever you use, just almost empty.

Once on the plane, transfer everything from the pockets back to the backpack so that you can sit comfortably without hard bulges everywhere around your torso - especially that big lens that had been in the inside pocket against the small of your back ;)

I'd be worried that a photography vest might get mistaken for something else a lot more sinister!

True, you might get more of a search but I don't see it as a problem provided you're open about it and don't act shiftily.

Reminds me of a friend who was photographing desert plants near the US-Mexico border in southern Arizona. He was accosted by the occupants of four 4x4s who wanted to inspect absolutely everything he had with him, even to the point of taking all the lens caps off and looking closely through all the lenses.
He did consider pointing out that they wouldn't find any Mexicans in there but thought better of it, otherwise they probably wouldn't have wished him a nice day when they'd finished.
After they'd gone he realised that they weren't the Border Patrol but DEA, hence looking inside everything that would open.

Hello SDW, nice to "see" you :)

michaels Is it yours today? I'm assuming it must be some NP's birthday or you wouldn't have mentioned it :)

    Thank you!

Planning a day of.....washing and ironing!

The veggie child has said he will come for supper, so also a stop off at Tesco.

Not complaining really. After a lovely holiday, I am happy to be home.
