I have a modern little 2-up-2-down, few possessions .... no "furniture/cupboards" to speak of (most things are simply stacked on the floor in the spare bedroom, or on some open shelving in that room, or under the stairs, or on the floor in the living room).... and I've STILL not seen sight of that s0ddin' screwdriver!

The best way to find it is to buy a replacement.

You're right. Then I can bring that home and think "I'll put that somewhere safe, somewhere where I'll know where to find it" - and when I go to that spot I'll find the old one :)

Most people have a different definition of broken, it might be on fire but still be reluctant to put the fire out in case it prevents their muddling through.

I only have a 2mb/s adsl but web browsing is normally pretty snappy. I have an i7 laptop witth an ssd though.

If PN's PC takes ages just to load a web page, then it's clearly broken. There can be all sorts of reasons for that, and probably all of them apply - too little RAM, not enough hard disk, slow processor. Possibly some viruses, too?

There are loads of replacement windows boxes available for £100-200, but I can see that the buying process might induce anxiety.

For some reason, I find this oddly annoying. It's a simple practical problem, that's easily solved. Yet, I'm not allowed to solve it! :)

If you were an architect, you'd make a very elaborate drawing of the replacement screwdriver, which would serve exactly the same purpose as buying a real replacement.

I wouldn't do that - and don't live somewhere where that could happen.

I think I last used it when trying to undo a screw (unsuccessfully) on my gate latch. Although that was outside, it was in my garden and I'd have had the box open inside the house and only the screwdriver (in my hand) outside ... so I'd have brought it back inside, put it in the case, put the case in the box .... and put it down "handy in case I need it again soon..." on the floor.

I've "tidied it away" at some point, when I decided I had too much "clutter sitting around in case I wanted it again/soon".

A screwdriver in a case. Is that a POSH ALERT?

I'm sorry if I'm being tetchy. I'm sitting here, waiting for a nurse to ring me, as it looks like I might need to go off for another one of those in-your-end-oscopies. Not looking forward to that.

They have booked me in for a CT 'oscopy', which is hopefully a lot less uncomfortable. Apparently, no clearing out required.

Last time I had an oscopy, they complained of "sub-optimal" clearing out, which I thought was unfair as I took all the right stuff at the right time.

I may have to go down that road in the near future. Not because anything is wrong, but apparently it's an age thing and the earlier the better. I am reassured that a CT oscopy is possible.

    Best of luck with it.

google tells me it is a CT colonography.

What it doesn't have is: an actual spot in the house to be stored consistently

I would dispute that - since it's obviously found itself a lovely little hidey hole somewhere with little risk of being found, taken out and used :p:p:p
