I didn't realise he needed that much contact with you.

Although, as I said, ADHD isn't anything like as severe, I can really relate to the overload of info thing.
It was one reason why I took so long to settle into anything new......new place, job, etc., but once I did I was fine. I learnt how to zone out, to give my brain a rest, and sometimes have to physically remove myself and be alone in another room, even if it's only the loo!

Sometimes just shutting my eyes helps, too.

When he was at home it was pretty much a full time job keeping him calm and able to learn, So I knew he would be needing a lot of contact once he was there despite all his additional support he has via the uni and his DSA.

He's only been going out independently for the last few months before he went to uni and even then, only on very familiar routes and with a fair amount of anxiety before, during and after.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I had a feeling it was a lot later than the thirties...... that maybe roads were still being upgraded for it as late as 20-25 years ago, maybe?

My info came from the M27 entry on Wikipedia - but it could still be correct :rotfl:

As someone else said, the M27 was originally meant to go as far as Chichester.
On a similar line, upgrades to the A27 either side of Arundel were meant to be linked using a bypass which was never built - which is why, when approaching Arundel from the east, you come to an unfinished junction, the A27 using the slip roads whilst the dual carriageway tarmac actually continues as far as the junction before coming to an abrupt end where the bridge would have been built.
This bypass has been on and off for decades, but appears to have been resurrected again (somewhat stupidly AFTER the area became a National Park IMO, planning approval would have been easier before), and is currently in the consultation period, again !!!

    Oh right! Interesting.

Mind you, where the M27 becomes the A27, that dual carriageway is virtually as good as a motorway. Iirc, it's only after Chichester or thereabouts, that it becomes a pain.

I remember once, years ago, driving from Southampton to Kent, and it was very fast up to past Chichester, and then it all slowed down and took for absolutely ever to get to my destination! (I mean the roads, not the traffic!)

Similarly, driving from Exeter to Truro, another time, took a year and a half!

And going East, getting to Cambridge-ish was easy-peasy, but then getting to Norwich went on and on and on.

Another time I was in Ipswich, and on a whim, thought I'd pop up to Ely and have a look at the cathedral.
    Hahahahhahahahahahahaa!

It took so long to get there, that I only just made it to the cathedral before they shut! :rotfl:
I got a quick whizz round, and out again!

Indeed - apparently it's only because the hard shoulders aren't wide enough that the stretch between J12 and the A3(M) not motorway standard

Oh yes - mind you, when the Brighton Bypass was opened that made a heck of a difference. Before then, I often found it was actually quicker, going to Eastbourne, to cut down to the sea at Shoreham and take the A259 along Brighton Front to Newhaven, then across the back of the Seven Sisters and Beachy Head.

    Problem...

My FIL is 87 and his health problems mean that he is now unable to drive and pretty much certain to remain unable to drive permanently. My MIL has never driven. They have decided (very generously) to give their car to DS, who was 17 last weekend. :)

Meanwhile, my car, as expected, has been written off by the insurance company. My plan is to drive the hire car for another week until I have to give it back, and then insure both DS and me to drive his car while I take my time to look for the right car at the right price to replace mine. After all, until he passes his test, he can't drive it without me to supervise him, anyway. FIL & MIL are happy with this.

This weekend, we went up there on the train, and I drove the car back to our house. I arranged temporary insurance for this on my usual policy (before I knew my car was a write-off) - a special deal for people who need to move the car of a relative who has died or become unable to drive. FIL & MIL have given me the MOT certificate, and their most recent V11 reminding them to tax it last February, but they have lost the V5(C).

I have been looking online about this. There is a form to send off to get a replacement V5(C), but it says it may take up to 6 weeks to arrive. The relevant gov.uk page says "If you are not the registered keeper of the vehicle you may not be able to tax it until you get a V5(C) in your name." It also says "If you have bought the vehicle and you want to drive it on the road you must tax it immediately." Does this mean I can't drive it until the new V5(C) arrives?

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I taxed something (can't remember what or why though) earlier this year using the new keeper part of the old V5C.

Give me 2 minutes and I'll check my emails :)

Well done. I'm sure it will get less alarming with practice. :)

I might suggest they have written procedures though

Thank you. Yes, you can do that. The problem is that they have lost the V5C so I don't have a new keeper part to use for taxing it. :(

Can't feel too cross with them - I've just realised I can't find my own V5C to inform the DVLA that my vehicle's been written off. :o:o:o

Can't you arrange the tax online?

If it helps I think v5(c)'s generally arrive in about a week, if it isn't a busy time eg new reg day.

Can you still go to your nearest DVLA office to get a replacement, or has that option disappeared?

You have insurance options. Who gets the NCD that you have built up? Is it possible to keep the car in in-laws name and insure it for your son to be the main driver? That may enable you to use their NCD?

Yes, just checked and it was my fathers new (to him) car.

It may need to sit on the drive until you have the new V5C, however that may be a problem additionally as you can't SORN it.

A much better idea would be for the government to allow it to be done online, a bit like I can do my personal tax return, but I think we're probably a while off that sadly.
