I'm at a weekend performance workshop.

Just had a very nice dinner. And I didn't have to cook it!

You were run into by the other driver. So, get a couple of quotes for repairs from main dealers, and send them to the other driver, suggesting that he passes them on to his insurers. If you're correct that it's under £1k, they are unlikely to quibble.

I'd make it clear to the main dealers that you don't expect the car to have clocked up more than 1 mile for a test run by the time you get it back. Or whatever you think is reasonable.

I can't see any reason why you should claim against your own insurance.

Absolutely. If they've admitted liability then they can go directly to their insurance company and they will contact you in turn to organise the repair. With a hire car.

You don't even need to get quotes. The only incovenience should be driving a different car.

I know this as my husband has a very definite habit of crunching into other cars at very low speed in my cars. It only took me 14 years to get to be able to protect my NCD, despite never claiming for anything myself. I've only had one accident - some drove into the back of me when I was stationary at a junction. That went through accident management provided by my car dealer.

Looking hopeful for a job here, just had a call back from a CV I put in yesterday that was very positive.

If it does come through, it will be full circle for me as it is for the same people (albeit the son and not the father) of the very first company I worked for full time and who supported me through my 'O' levels with time off work (paid) to sit them!

Bit of background, started there as a part time job when I was 15, job went full time when I left school but still had to go back to do exams. I stopped working full time when I got an office job at 17 but still went in on a Sunday, initially to cover the move from weekly to monthly pay, once that was covered, the money was used to pay for my driving lessons. I eventually had to stop my Sunday and bank holiday work there when I entered the corporate world and was banned from having a second job.

    Fingers crossed eh!

Edit - Another phone call, invited in for training on Tuesday!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

But the way it works is we go through our insurance company and pay the excess and wait months until they recover the costs from the third party insurance company and refund the excess payment. Our insurance company probably insist on some EV specialist who are miles away who pick up the car, thrash it to their bodyshop, do an average job and thrash it back to our house having possibly given us an inferior replacement car whilst are car is away for a week or so.

How old is the car though?

If within warranty period I'd hope the insurer would insist on manufacturer (or main dealer) repair.

If not I'd definitely be looking at a specialist to do the work.

The Leaf is a reasonably new model, so definitely one of those scenarios and not a back street paint shop.

Sounds like great news for both sue and pastures... Good luck to both of you, here's hoping things work out for you.

6 years??? I remember when it was new. I've been on the NPT longer than I think.

Oh, and hoping for the best for your news, too, but not quoting it. :)
