And the NP thread degenerates to something like the Blackadder the Third episode Ink and Incapability - where Dr Johnson asks Prince George if he is simply using his new dictionary to look up rude words, to which Blackadder replies "Why not? That's what all the others will be used for".

Not funny cars, more "iffy" cars

Yep - the Datsun name became so tarnished due to poor quality cars that when the company improved their designs and quality control they changed the name to Nissan to get away from the old name and all that it meant in the UK market.

And it does seem to have worked, they are selling plenty and they don't seem to suffer from QC or reliability problems any more than most other brands.

Some parts of my Dacia Duster are Nissan sourced - predominantly the 4WD system. The engine may be too, I'm not sure whether Renault or Nissan had the bigger part in designing it - they both use the same engine by the shedload though. So do some other manufacturers too, my Mercedes A-class had the same engine.

I did hear that they are considering reintroducing the Datsun name for a budget range.

That said, I did hear that they are considering reintroducing the Datsun name for a budget range.

That's interesting, because when I got my Nissan, I did some research, and Nissan were top of the league for reliability etc. etc. which is why I went for one.

By the time I was ready for the next car, 16 years later, (and it was still going ok!), Toyota had just pipped them to the post, so that's why I went for them instead. That one's now 11 years old and (touch wood) going strong.

  • We really rate another car brand that started off with an awful reputation but is now a good vehicle ---we are on our second Skoda :)

And before that we had a Seat. It had VW on the engine.

Of course they are both VWs really. Skodas are last year's model.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

Somebody has the startings of a stinky BBQ. It's at an odd stage of burning where I keep thinking my house is on fire! It's just past the stage where you can smell the startup fluid.

There's a lovely small permeating through my house atm - I think it could have something to do with the 2½ litres of strawberry jam I've been making ;)

It's very still here at the moment, and just before we shut the caravan door we got a great waft of perfume from the honeysuckle flowers in the hedge. :)
