Both bedroom windows open last night, but still quite warm. Not so hot that I yearned for an air con unit, though.
We have free tickets for the Ally Pally food festival, so we'll walk over there. It's not the nicest walk, but it's still exercise. Does anyone pay to go in to these 'festivals'?No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

One place near me has a food festival in public open spaces, so no entry fee. Another place does sometimes have specialist food festivals where you pay to go in, but I've never been to one.
It always strikes me as strange that you are asked to pay to go into what is in effect a market! That applies to antiques fairs too. Weird.(I just lurve spiders!)

Is it part of the business model for that type of business? Antiques Fairs, Car Boots etc make money from the event, rather than the selling of the things. As such they are facilitating a market for both buyers and sellers, with both paying to use that facility. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? What seems odd is that people who pitch up on the day are made to pay an entrance fee, whilst others get free tickets. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

I refuse to pay entrance fees to enter a space for the chance to buy something (that's probably overpriced anyway).
It's a ploy to keep riff raff like me out I suspect.
Here there's one Food Festival that's simply the High Street closed down and the public open spaces with food trucks and entertainment - no entry fees, all completely free to wander around. I've been to that. Around that event there are "ticket only" events of cooking demonstrations and "special meal deals" at super-pricey venues.
There's another, in a "hired field" that's cheese/chilli and they make a charge ... so I've never been.
There's a "Thai" festival to showcase thai culture/music/food, which is on common space and then fenced off, with an entry fee... two years ago I and 100 others stood outside of the fence looking in muttering "wouldn't pay to go in there, you can see it all from here anyway" .... and by early afternoon they'd stopped trying to charge people to go in (it was dire/run by amateurs though). All a bit comical in its quality of entertainment and whoever was running it on the microphone. All a bit "give the mic to a random person and get them to bluff it, without any talent".0 -
Could that smashed wall have been a car bashing into it?
Unless the bricks had only just been laid, it would seem odd if yoofs had been able to pull it over.(I just lurve spiders!)

Want to pick your brains about cars again! I'd more or less decided on a Ford SMax for next car... But found out today it would cost over £2K to get the add on for heated front seats. And seeing as up front Motability payment was quite a lot too, I'm not so keen any more.
So other possibility is a VW Touran. One of the petrol versions - we mostly only do local driving, so diesel isn't really such a good choice for us, though depending on costs we might consider going down that road.
Anyone driven one? Any other ideas or recommendations? I won't be driving it, OH will be the named driver.
Oh, heated seats may seem an odd thing to choose a car on, but most of the year I can't cope with anything over a very local journey without heat on my back.0 -

Aren't they going to penalise diesel cars, though?(I just lurve spiders!)

I've got heated seats and that feature is almost top of my list of must haves for my next car. They came with the car when I bought it and they really are a fantastic thing on a cool day. The rule in my car is if the temp gauge is in single figures then the heated seats go on.0
