Well, there won't be a pair much longer either. And they're certainly not a pretty sight.

An aunt had a single masectomy about 15 years ago, followed by chemo and radio. She never bothered with a reconstruction. She's been fine ever since.

Close friend has just finished her treatment. She wore a cold cap that meant she didn't lose her hair and had micro blading to protect her eyebrow look.

Another friend's daughter is having an elective double masectomy after discovering a dodgy gene.

Seems to be a lot of it around, luckily a lot of good outcomes.

    Hope you stay positive.

Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

My friend has had a mastectomy and a reconstruction. There's not many ways to dress it up as a positive - aside from life prolongment, which is quite a big one. I don't know what they look like without clothes, and I'm sure it takes an awful lot of getting used to, but her new boobies look banging. :o

    Love to you.

When did you get your diagnosis? When is the op happening?

Diagnosis was 3rd Aug. This was a second opinion (at my request). Started chemo 10th. Sounds good but there was a significant delay in getting diagnosed. I'm now at a big shiny London teaching hospital rather than the local one. The travel isn't ideal but at least they seem to know what they're doing. And it's next to work so I get lots of visitors / chaperones to appointments :)

No idea when the op will be - I've not asked and it's not come up yet. Will be after chemo so I guess early next year. Radiotherapy after that so they don't reconstruct immediately.
For those who've not met me, as well as long hair, I have/had let's say 'generous' breasts. It's going to be interesting walking around with just the one. Better than not walking around at all though, as you say!

How soon will you be able to wear a prosthesis, pending reconstruction? Have you had any info about that?

I'm shocked that there was a delay in diagnosis. :(

Is there a team that can give you support and info?

I've really not asked. We've not got onto that yet. It's still less than a month since I got the diagnosis so they're still figuring out what's what at the moment (I'm having lots of scans etc). There will be plenty of time to know about what comes next. I'm happy being ignorant for now. There is a large team where I am being treated, evertone I've met so far has been lovely and very suportive/ helpful.

Yeah - the diagnosis wasn't ideal (understatement). I am planning to pursue this further.

I've struggled to know what to say/post - as we know I'm a "foot in mouth" type :)

I am thinking of you Nikkster... and, in a way, not asking questions as I'm sure you don't know the answer to them and if it were me it'd grind me down having to answer questions that I didn't know the answer to.

So .... my thoughts are with you many, many times a day ... wishing you the best outcome.

Thanks PN. I didn't for a moment think you didn't send best wishes :)

The truth is there is no right thing to say. This sucks and 'shouldn't' be happening. But it is and life has to go on.
If there are questions you want to ask, please feel free to do so. Though was alreday thinking that perhaps this needs to move elsewhere...
I'm generally very open about things if I know the answers. I have to warn everyone that I am tending to make jokes about this. Some people find a bit odd. It's just my sense of humour though - which I'm keen to keep!
