  • In my budget/location "really liking it" is highly unlikely. I'm looking for "something that will have to do" :)

In my budget the housing stock is quite tired/shabby a lot of the time, or marred by "poor choices" of extensions/changes that are clunky and don't work/flow.

    :)

    I am not a people person. I don't interact. I am a loner/recluse.
It means going outside.... in some of the "worst circumstances" - e.g. to potentially have to interact in a small space with somebody I despise (the agent) :)

A piece of me chips away every time I am somewhere I don't want to be. I could have to "hide away" for 2-3 days after such an event.

Aside from issues of structure/asbestos (1960s bungalow).... the photos indicate it could probably do with a rewire, which then needs a replaster. It'd need white paint splashing everywhere and new flooring (not a problem) and a new bathroom suite (not a problem). But... as a guesstimate, how much'd a rewire/replaster (possibly artex ceilings) cost ... and I suspect it's more than what I'd have available. I could live with dated/avocado ... but it's the cost of that first stage of "messy/in every room" bit that makes me hesitate.

What was it Nikki wrote about putting on big girls knickers? Not that it’s anything I’ve ever done. I think you have to get your courage up, gird your loins, bite the bullet, and grasp the nettle. Otherwise, it will be sold before you have even seen it.

Plus, if there’s work to do, most of it can be done in two or three weeks. It should be cheaper for the builder to do if you continue living in the hotel for that period.

Doozer can give you an idea of cost, but at a guess I’d say
    Electrics £4K
    Plastering £1k
    Flooring £3k
    Bathroom £4K

Plaster may cost a bit more to skim the artex. I’ve always liked artex, but I’m stuck in the 1970s. Mind you, if it’s just a bit of channeling to fill in after the electrical work, it’s only half a day for the plasterer.

    Plus decorating.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

So you say; you're possibly wearing them right now :)

Plaster may cost a bit more to
    I kind of figured:
    Electrics £3k
    Plastering unknown
    Flooring £3k
    Bathroom £3k

I could do without the bathroom if I ran out of money.... flooring isn't essential.... rip it all out and chuck down some odd/cheap offcuts and rugs for 2-3 years is good enough...

Although I'd like "something done/finished" to live in, I've spent a lifetime of make do and mend, put up with and work around, so that bit's not a worry.

There's also a bit of "fear of the unknown"... like when the boiler packs up unexpectedly as one "hoped it'd limp on" and you need £3k :)

I'm just a scaredy cat really, who actually has NO interest in any form of DIY/remodelling, choosing/deciding, commissioning/managing anything. :)

Houses are cheaper, but they're bigger/too big... if I can just get "a little bungalow" now (not TOO small) that'd be better... I'm guessing this one's about 65-68 sq m.

To be frank, I may have overdone the metaphors. :)

I'd recommend going and looking at the property. Then, if it looks okay, you can worry about the work.

The trouble is that you're too intelligent. Intelligent people look ahead and foresee all the issues. Then, it looks too difficult, and they give up.

I'm amazed that the Apollo Programme worked at all, as that was undoubtedly run by clever people. Perhaps they employed other people to tell them to stop worrying and just get on with it?

I cheated, I emailed as the agent had sent me the details on an email, so I replied to that to request a viewing.

The sender's name was the tall annoying arrogant tw4t that showed me round the last one.... he has a super poncy name and is a self-opinionated 1d10t :)

But he wants his commission - and without a buyer like you there won't be a sale.

Not here we are onto the beginning of the 3rd week of money going up in smoke. We have already had two weeks of fireworks. Compared to last Sunday tonight here is quiet.

I am not going out. I have the evidence of what can be flying through the air.
