Is 61gm heavy enough to break a windscreen on its downward fall?

Even if all fireworks sold in the UK are safe, that doesn't mean that all operators use them safely. Fire a rocket too near a crowd and you risk injury, however safe the firework is or isn't

In other news, I had a tooth removed today. The dentist said I was too old to believe in the tooth fairy, so it would go to a dental school for student dentists to practice with.

Trick or treat is huge locally. Onlyy houses with decorations and lights on are deemed to be taking part. Youngest kids go with parents as soon as it gets dark. Slightly olders go with parents near at the same time teenagers go in groups about 7-9 but many ha e taken their decs down by then.

New thing this year, some houses have had decs up for a few weeks. What is that about?!

I have no flipping idea..... I went to see mum at the residential home... I thought the door was broke... it was flipping halloween decoration take... I swear the decorations are up longer than my christmas decorations are up!

While reports/statistics show that quite a large %age of fireworks are illegally made/sold. Fakes.

Not to mention motorbikes, cyclists and little old ladies walking on the pavement.

You don't have the right kind of dentist. I had a wisdom tooth removed a couple of years ago and asked the dentist how much I could expect from the tooth fairy. The answer was £1 for a complete one but he had to break mine to get it out. It was in the bin so the dental nurse had to rake through the bin to get it out so that I could present it to the tooth fairy.

I presented it to the tooth fairy at home and got a £1 pound coin with a note that said "you owe me one complete wisdom tooth" it was signed "tooth demon."

Next visit I took the note to my dentist who looked at and said "oops" and then we all had a good laugh.

I don't know for certain whether a tube of plastic with extra weight at one end would go through a car windscreen but falling out of the sky onto the roof of a car would certainly leave a dent. The kind of fireworks that leave behind 61gm bits of plastic go up higher than the normal ones. I wouldn't want to be walking along when something like this came down.

I went out on the evening when it was raining these bits of plastic. I don't think I will be going out again when there are fireworks in the future it is just much too dangerous.

OK update on the firework situation and I am sorry to say it isn't good news.

The council rang. The EU directive on fireworks says that all fireworks sold in the UK are safe. That sounds good doesn't it?

Today I picked up out of the road some more bits of plastic. One of them weighed 47grams. The other weighed 61grams. These have come from a rocket and fell from that rocket onto the public highway. The 61gram one would have caused injury and it would have broken the windscreen of a car driving at the time. In my area it is not not safe to either drive or walk when people are using fireworks because of the danger of heavy pieces of plastic falling out of the sky. These fireworks should not have been used in a private garden in a built up area they were only suitable for use on somewhere like a playing field where they could keep people away from the fallout area.

Next stop our MP although I am not hopeful because he is one of the useless MPs in the country.

If they're dropping something large enough to break something then there are 2 likely options.

Either the operators are not using them correctly or they're illegal imports.

The council are correct in saying that anything legally imported has to meet certain standards, however it's probable that illegally imported fireworks that don't meet the standards are available and anyone using these is playing with their lives, plus the lives of anyone around them.

Naturally, if they're knowingly doing so I'd welcome a prosecution against them and whoever is selling them, as quite frankly a professional seller should know how to vet their supply chain to ensure dangerous items aren't being put into the hands of the public.

Where I live I would put my money on illegal imports that have all the correct labels plus the fact that the people who bought them knew that they were dodgy but they were cheap. Last year one of my neighbours informed me that there were shops selling fireworks as 2 for the price of one.

Trading standards told me that there were no people selling fireworks from the backs of cars. They are looking in the wrong place. That is not going to be where these are coming from.

In fact the more I think about it the more I think that where I found the bits of plastic are where there aren't really any people living who could afford to buy legitimate fireworks of that size and use them for an hour plus. In the more expensive areas where I live there was no rubbish in the road or big lumps of plastic like that.

That’s Sainsbury doing a 3-4-1 on fireworks a few years ago. Marketing tactics don’t by themselves mean the fireworks are dodgy.

It may be quite hard for people to know which fireworks are dodgy. The manufacturers know to print an e-Mark on the packaging, without necessarily knowing what it means, and certainly without complying.

The weight of the fireworks doesn’t by itself mean they’ll dent a car. It depends how hard and dense the fireworks are. They may reach terminal velocity, so the height makes no difference. In any case, I would worry about people being hit on the head more than about cars. I’ve never heard of people being hurt like that though. You would think it would get into the papers if it is a problem.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
