Joe came on a foodies event with me last night (I am part of a local Foodies club) where even I am amongst the younger ones in the room. On our table last night, the others were all retired, then there was me and then Joe.

Anyway, the topic turned to politics and I think they didn't expect Joe to be able to join in the discussion, or even to understand what everyone was talking about (it doesn't help that he looks about 12 but by this point they already knew he was a uni student). In typical Joe style, he not only displayed that he actually knew more about politics and political history than others on the table but he impressed them whilst doing so with his oratory style.

I just sat there and was overwhelmed with the memories of Joe as a child when he was trapped in his own world and completely non verbal compared to how he can now hold his own in a room full of strangers on a topic he feels so passionate about.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

As a stand alone costs exercise, fuel cost £10-11, haircut £8. A local hair cut with the same items (wash, cut, blow dry), using the first three results from Google that provide an online price list, show £25, £38, £30.

    Crikey, that's a heck of a price difference ;)

A wash/cut & blowdry for £8! How do they make that pay?

I really feel for poor Nikki, who had a whole series of operations. It must have been awful. Everything that happens is one or more of the following:
    Undignified
    Uncomfortable
    Painful
    Very painful

I reckon my courage is exhausted after one op, so I have no idea at all how she coped.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Dear GDB, I'm so sorry you're having such a difficult time. I've been thinking of you over the last few days, and I will continue to do so. Positive Vibes and cyber hugs coming your way.

Very much hoping that things improve for you soon.

Oh, GDB, I am sorry you are going through this.

I'm sure that these are the darkest days and the light will be back soon.

Hardly comparable, but I remember sharing having my tonsils removed with you lot and it was hellish pain for a good 14 days - and that's not major and they kicked me out within hours. Obtaining decent pain relief can be an issue.

Are still in hospital or coping at home?

The proverbial has hit the fan, right now I am the temporary guardian of a 7 year old. Will post more in the other place when I get the chance.
