We picked Josh up for the final time from university yesterday, got half way home and then I remembered something....yep, he had forgotten to hand the keys to his room in!

It was a huge wrench him leaving there, his life is now there, his friends are all there (permanently resident, not students) and he is set on getting back there as soon as possible.

Oh god I remember him deciding on Universities. Scary how time flies.

Has he decided on next steps? Moving back is a good idea if he was happy there and his friends are there, but if I could myself at that time some advice it would be to ensure I was moving in some direction and not just staying in the city for the sake of it.

The zag family now consists of two working pensioners, an apprentice and a worker who's returning to full-time study for four years in the near future.

The age that kids become independent seems to keep increasing.

Can I be a little bit jealous?

My house is very quiet. The kids both moved pretty soon after university and we are empty nesters. Far to young to be empty nesters at 55.

When they come bounding home, I love it.

He believes he will be better positioned there than here for his industry plus he had made a life there. He's like a lost soul at the moment as his social life is there and we are in the back of beyond.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

    Hi on a newbie nicely

I am guilty of being too nice.
Anything for a quitelife and being nice is the way to go.!! Or was
But looking after your needs and looking out for yourself can sometimes be forgotten when you're aim is to be nice and friendly and amenable
    Alas..
being nice has been coupled with no healthy amount of selfishness that made me an open book.
Be Polite but have self preservation.

    Look after your reputation
    Keep away from toxic relationships
Arm yourself against narcissists who smell your sweet blood a mile away

Sorry to be a down hearted soul.

    Don't get me wrong..be nice
But look after yourself first and foremost.

The self development section of libraries and bookshops grew and grew through the 80s and 90s and so on.
I sometimes think we living in the age of the narcissist. where being selfish and exploiting truthful decent people is seen as a virtue. Where being a friend means being a flying monkey even if people know that they are supporting someone who is below par.
    Any views??

Didn't make an offer. Nice enough, but wasn't feeling it.

Had a drive by a couple that were on my list as possibles to check out.
1/ House, not in ideal location. It turned out the back garden was only about 20' deep .... not a problem except I was there to check out how tall the trees were... it was about 5.30 on about the longest day of the year and the sun was shining and still no sun on the back garden as the trees were about 80' high and the garden 20' deep. That's off the list.

2/ Had a drive by of what I thought would be an unsuitable new build. I thought it had potential for kids to be playing round the cars - couldn't get to the house itself as there were boys scootering all over the car park, so that settles that.

3/ Wanted to find the orientation of a new build that I don't think's suitable (allocated parking).... and the tiny gardens are East.

4/ Took a drive by the house that's bigger than I'd want, that's top of budget... 2 doors down was a Banger Racing car :) Technically parked on the public highway as it was on the pavement/outside of their boundary. I didn't mind that too much to be honest.... it's the size/price that is the real issue with that one.

So that's four off the list - and the one today is only on the list in case I get desperate.

Bit annoying... very windy here, as usual.

Just opened my door and the front door mat flew up in the air and shot down the hallway - and anything lighter than that also flew down the hall. Step outside and you're blown off your feet.

Meanwhile, next door's sitting in her garden, sunning herself, reading a magazine and with the patio doors open.

Wind tunnel here. Next door, never windy. *sighs*

Yes, just real life getting in the way. Still being nice though.
