LTE vs 4G ?

Other half and I have identical mobile phones ( Samsung J5 6 )
And we are both on 02.

I purchased my phone from Tesco, and am on a sim only contract.

OH has her phone included in contract, so obviously pays more.

Anyway, getting to the point, i noticed that if we were out and about, her mobile internet connectivity was always better than mine, sometimes connecting when i couldnt, or faster response times if we both connected.

I checked some settings, and on Mobile Networks / Network Mode:

My settings were LTE/3G/2G(auto connect )

OH settings were 4g/3G/2G ( auto connect )

I spoke to someone at local Mobile shop - he said it could be because of phone, or how sim is provisioned.

I rang 02, and eventually got put through to a " guru" i cant remember all the techy jargon, but anyway he arranged for me to be sent a new sim.

I havnt swapped them over yet, but thought i would try to get some opinions on whether LTE is inferior to 4G, and is "fault" likely to be with original sim provisioning or could it actually be down to phone itself ?

Thanks

4G and LTE are the same thing. It could do with where the phone originally came from. My OnePlus X whilst bought from their UK site (they are a Chinese company), still says LTE.
Also with the O2 network, they have a tier-based data speed system on their pay as you go, and MVNO (i.e. use the O2 network, but aren't O2).

Not similar conditions but yes I reckon 4G is better.

When I upgraded to ios10 4G was now displayed and the speed was massively improved in certain areas.

If you type *#0011# it will show you what type of network you are connected to, you could download a free speedtest app from Google play and test it with different variations of the phone/sim.

Have you checked if both phone have the latest software updates from Samsung?

O2 uses 800 MHz 4G (which isn't usually the fastest) along with some 1800 MHz 4G to give extra capacity.

    Hi,

My phone is set up to download updates aotomatically.

I put the *#0011# code in - results below:

    LTE RRC:IDLE BAND:20 BW: 10MHz

    MCC-MNC:234-10,TAC:16864

    Earfcn: 6400, PCI: 196

    RSRP:-XXX RSRQ:-XX SNR: X.X ( these figures were changing)

    CA - Not Config

    PA STATE:0(ET), HDET:0

    STATE:REGISTRED SUB:0

    SERVICE : AVAILABLE

    REJECT:0, LU_ATT#: 0

    TMSI : 0x22b7430c

    NETWORK : UNBLOCK

    IMEI Certi: PASS

    UNknown

    As Timalay has said 4G=LTE=4G.

There is no difference between a phone reporting 4G and one reporting LTE.

The next technology speed jump is 4G+ which is also called LTE-A.

Agreed no difference at all. For example, on the AT&T network in the USA international phones such as ASUS, OnePlus, etc. all show 4G, but AT&T specific phones will show LTE. Even though they are all connected to LTE. On android, and app such as LTE discovery will tell you the exact LTE band you are connected to.

Band 20 is LTE 800MHz - BW 10MHz is the carrying capacity.
This is never going to be massively fast.

Have you swapped sims to test out each phone?
